No Horse Hair, SASS #77464 Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I've got a new Pietta 1860 w/45 LC conversion installed. I'm working the bugs out, but it is hitting about a foot and a half high at 15 yards. I've been thru this before with a 1860 RM conversion gun. On that project I butchered the barrel trying to pull/grind out the front sight blade and ended up taking it to a smith and having 1 inch cut off and blade front sight dovetailed on. It works great but the sight I had doesn't look "period correct" as it was off one of my modern guns. So for this Kirst gun I'm looking for something to dovetail in that looks more "1860". I'm thinking maybe one of the dovetail sights from a Remington percussion gun (1858?) . Ya'll got any ideas? Pictures would be great! NO HORSE (DREMEL DEMON) HAIR
Sedalia Dave Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Track of the wolf has a good selection of period sights.
McCandless Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Personally, I think a larger brass sight and a squared out rear sight on the hammer, do wonders for the 1860. Dead on at CAS distances and longer.
No Horse Hair, SASS #77464 Posted June 4, 2024 Author Posted June 4, 2024 Those are some mighty classy 60's, Mc Candless! I could be happy with those sights (and those hammers)! What did you make the sights out of? NHH
