Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl Shootists of the Year Nominations are now open!

Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl Shootists of the Year Nominations are now open!

The idea behind the Magnificent Seven is for a group/organization to recognize Classic Cowboys and Cowgirls who epitomize the costuming, shooting style, and giving back to CAS that we like to think characterizes the Classic Cowboy and Cowgirl categories.

Like John Wayne said about gunfighters in "The Shootist", a Classic Cowboy or Cowgirl must "be willin." It is not an easy category and rarely the fastest, but it attracts those who embrace the costuming and challenge that the category represents. Since 2010 we have been recognizing Classic Cowboys and Cowgirls who met these standards.

Current Members of the Magnificent 7:

Ruby Red Rider, Hot Tamale, Dutch Coroner, GW Ryder, Major Art Tillery, Pony Soldier and Sixgun Seamus

Please tell us who you believe is ‘willin” and why.

 Thank you,

The Magnificent 7

High Plains Hud from Lenexa, Kansas.

This guy is not only an exceptional shooter and competitor but the nicest darn fella you'll ever meet. He'll help you any which way he can and if you're lucky enough to beat him he'll be the first to shake your hand with a hearty congratulations. High Plains Hud is not only a fierce competitor but he has a contagious laugh and a wit that keeps you having way more fun than you should when he's beating you. ;)  He has dressed a supurb classic cowboy style from the 1st day I met him years ago. I am proud to call him a friend and a mentor.

Ladies vote

Miss Alotta Steel, she has been shooting CCG for exactly 1 yr. She always dresses the part fully going above and beyond. She has put in countless hours of practice to start becoming one of the top respected CCG’s in the game. Her sweet attitude and disposition towards everyone she meets exemplifies what a Classic Cowgirl should be.

I have some nominations, I’m having a difficult time picking one over the other, so I’ll just mention them both!

Loco Leadslinger and Lever Action Landon. They’re both great guys, fun to shoot with, and hard workers. Both would be a good fit.

I nominate Tom Payne.  He has been a CC for as long as I can remember.  He's a hard worker on the posse and always willing to offer helpful advice.
Have harmonica, will travel! He has played our National Anthem for countless clubs, too.

I nominated Tom Payne for additional reasons - he runs a SASS club and actively assists at others.  I believe that he was in the Magnificent Seven at one time as well.  He exemplifies the cowboy way too.

I nominate Morgan Daniels. He is an all around good guy. He is quick to help wherever needed. He is the TO everyone loves to have. He lives the cowboy code. He has a ready smile for everyone, and that cheerful attitude that infects the posse.

+1 on the Tom Payne nomination.

My vote is for High Plains Hud also. I agree with all stated above. Also Miss a Lotta Steel is quickly becoming a force to deal with for the Classic ladies. My vote is for her also.

I nominate Julie Bean. She's new at this, and I know she shot at the Classic Cowboy/Cowgirl Showdown.

I’d like to nominate Jax-T. Back when I was shooting duelist he pulled me aside and brought me into the world of Classics.  He’s always the first one to greet me with a handshake on the range and shares tips and tricks to improve in the game. He’s been a Posse Marshal on several occasions and I’ve watched him help new shooters get through a course of fire.

Last year at Adobe Walls I lost a spring in one of my revolvers. Jax found out and that night he went all the way back home and brought back a set of Vaqueros for me to use in the match.

At End of Trail this year we had 11 folks staying at an Air B&B. Jax went grocery shopping and made us all steaks and baked potatoes for dinner one evening making sure we all had plenty to eat.

I'll re-nominate Cowtown Scout.  Whenever anyone mentions Classic Cowboy, that's who I picture.  Someone who exemplifies Classic Cowboy for the rest of us year after year, march after march.

My nomination may not count since I am not a CC myself, but I’d like to nominate Cleve!

He’s all cowboy, all the time, a top hand and always supportive of other shooters, a fine competitor, and much more!

I’ll vote for Jax T. MCC said it all, Jax T has always been an upstanding person and cowboy. I mentioned about shooting Classic with my wife and was able to buy all my guns from him at a super price. He’s always welcoming each and every-time I see him. Jax T truly exemplifies the meaning “Classic Cowboy”.

Could not agree more!

I have know him since he started, he has always exemplified what CC and cowboy is all about.

I've know him so long I remember when he shot 250 gr. bullets and no short stroke or lowered hammers!!!!!

A very long time ago!

A very deserving man....

My vote is also for Jax T. He’s  been shooting classic cowboy for many years and he’s not been recognized for the accomplishments he’s given to the sport. Not only is he great shooter, he stays in costume from the beginning to the end of any match which to me shows the true cowboy way. ( yes I have seen other classic cowboy cowgirl immediately changing.) he is the first step up to help anyone on or off the range. I’m proud to call him my friend..

I also want to throw my vote in for High Plains Hud.

He showed the true spirit of the Classic Cowboy at a shoot when my shotgun broke. He ran to his car and let me borrow his back up shotgun. He is always a fun presence on the posse and he's a very good shooter!

As for the lady, I put my vote in for Miss Alotta Steel. She has taken what classic cowgirl means and run with it fast to the line and makes us all look good.

2nd for Cowtown Scout. Anyone who shoots an 87 should be in there IMHO.  Been shooting this category for a long time and has always been very helpful and has judged costume contest too.

My vote goes to Loco Leadslinger.  He defines Classic Cowboy.  Newly appointed Regulator. Multi time Ohio State Champion. Has finished in the top 3 at EOT multiple times. A great guy to posse with. Encouraging even his competitors. Always willing to help another Cowboy.

I agree with Loco Leadslinger --Top cowboy & competitor -- Not flashy, but one of the best pards yule ever shoot with.

And another vote for Lever action Landon -- Always friendly & helpful to all.  And a determined competitor who gets on his game face & attacks the stages.

I nominate Letort Lawman, not as nationally known but in the Northeast he is. Over 20 plus years of running the Perry County Regulators. Dresses the part of Classic Cowboy to the max and carries himself in the cowboy way.
