Cypress Sun Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Red Dot available right now at Natchez in one lb containers. Kind of pricey but this may be the last opportunity to get them for the foreseeable future. Link below. https://www.natchezss.com/reloading/powder?brand=Alliant Powder
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Bad timing in that the current promotion is free shipping on $250 worth of ammo, but that doesn't apply to reloading stuff. Lots of prices rising. So let's see, what are you loading with Red Dot? Pistol ammo? V-V N320 which was always expensive, is $10 less per lb than the Red Dot. Shotgun? Winchester WST is available in 8 lb and runs $10 less per lb. also. It is fine in pistols also. Whatever, some people just want to stick with their favorite and that's okay, better pricey than none. Well, if you are going to pay hazmat anyway, their Federal SPP are $75 so add some of that!

I don't use it, don't even have any, nor am I going to purchase any. Alliant has stated that they are canceling and/or restricting all sales of canister powders. Maybe BS, maybe not...I don't know. Thought folks would like they're possible last chance, for a while, at this particular powder. Everyone has their favorite powder(s)...the one(s) they've NEVER had a problem with. I do...it isn't Red Dot though.
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 I bought 2 8-lb kegs of red dot last summer, one to put on the shelf for possible future need, and one for a friend who picked that time to switch to another powder. So I recently sold the second keg for $350 which now looks like a bargain I'm just encouraging folks not to panic when their favorite powder is unavailable because so many other suitable ones ARE. And while prices keep skyrocketing, I can't feel sorry for those who have experienced the pandemic shortage and STILL did not stock up when all the primers and powder have been plentiful over the last year or so. Maybe they couldn't find it locally or maybe they didn't want to pay those mail order prices. Either way, it was their choice. It's the new reloaders I feel for.
watab kid Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 i really like my red dot but im not adverse to changing and i will , ive still got enough to put off this change for another year but i may make it sooner if i decide to load up a lot of shot shells this summer ,
Erasmus Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 I will miss having cheap Red Dot around. I'm down to my last pound, I liked it for a LOT of things. But I'm not buying at $50ish/lb. I don't know what I'm going to swap to, but so far I'm just looking for whatever fast shotgun powder is around. IMO Red Dot was more economical and more universal than Unique (or Universal). As for promo, I could never find it. If I could have, I'd have used it. I've currently got a bottle of something from Midwest Powders that looks like a mix of Red Dot, Green Dot, and Clay Dot; but they say it burns like PB in shotgun shells. We'll see where this gets me.

Just as well buy it. Powder is not getting any cheaper and is going to get a lot harder to come by until the shooting in Ukraine stops.
watab kid Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 these prices are insane , i get whats happening right now but a war on top of covid is really killing our shooting sports ,
