Mike Venturino In Hospice

Recommended Posts

Former SASS member and well known writer Mike Venturino is in hospice care and not expected to live the week. This is sad news for all of us. He and I have spoke many times sharing our war stories of being writers. It is good to have someone to vent to that has the same experiences.
I think I have all his books. If I need to know something related to cowboy guns or rifles, his books are my primary source.
I have never met Mike in person but I feel I am losing a genuine friend.

O Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray to You for Your servant whose sickness is bringing him to the end of his earthly life.

You are the God whose only-begotten Son taught us that not even the smallest sparrow can fall without Your knowledge, and that You hold all creation in Your merciful arms.

Look upon Your servant and allow this illness to be for the death only of those things which are the result of evil and sin.

Let his thoughts be quieted with the peace and confidence of his final deliverance into the fullness of Your love. Keep his soul and body pure,

and sanctify them during the time he remains among us, that on the last day he may be raised up with all Your saints to live with You in never ending glory.

For to You belong praise and worship,

to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Mike just posted on the Coltforum:

Guys, I’m still hanging in there. Bedridden and unable to walk but one of the drugs they are plying me with is strengthening my heart. The doc said today that if I left today i might not survive the two hour drive home but if I will stay here a couple more days they can send me home with that drug. It might give me a few weeks. Regardless my shooting and writing days are over. You guys and others like you have made it possible for me to have had such a wonderful life. I thank you.

Very sad to hear. I have talked with him several times at the Bozeman Gun Shows and actually shot a cowboy match with him several years ago. Wonderful person to guns with.

Lord Father.

You have all of our days numbered.

You have every hair on our head accounted for in every tier wipe dry.

Father we ask you to put your cloak of protection over Mike .

Father walk with him down this narrow path and guide his steps to you.

Lord be with Mike's Family and friends during these trying times .

It's in Jesus name we pray.

Amen .

I have tried to follow Mike pretty much since he started writing. Too many magazines were fools to let him get away from them. He and his writings will be missed.

Sorry to hear this. Got my first BPCR Silhouette rifle from Mike, back in the early 1990's.  Used to visit with Mike and Yvonne at the Nationals at Raton, Nice folks.

Here is hoping the new drugs help Mike.

I had the pleasure of meeting him at EOT 1990 in Coto de Caza, CA. I was walking by a row of vendors tents when I happened to look over and see him sitting in one with lots of frilly and lacy items. I walked over to him, shook his and thanked him for all the great magazine articles. I then kinda chided him for selling frilly women's items instead of guns. He said it was his wife's tent and he was just minding the store for her. I said, sure Mike and rolled my eyes. He got a kick out of it. I then saw him later in a top gun shoot off. He was shooting an original Winchester 1873 musket. Here's to him beating this.

Sorry to hear this.

Reading Mr. Venturino's articles led to me collecting and shooting original Winchesters in .32 and .38 WCF.

He was kind enough to respond to three e-mails from me 10-15 years ago.
