Major Crimes
I am looking at Vihtavuori Powder as my other powders run down. I have looked at the data available, but it is mainly for jacketed ammo or 158gr proj. I have some N320 on order. Does anyone have some cowboy loads for 125, 130 or 140gr proj? EDIT- 38 spcl. Painted Mohawk SASS 77785
Hey Major They are sure putting high prices on the 320...cheapest I've seen is $540 for 4 lbs & up to $650..I don't know where this is going to end as at the moment we are getting right royal arse ended down -under...smells big of Government interference, plain & simple they want our guns by what ever means possible. Yep, some here are already having to cut it at 3 or 4 stages at the club events to eke out what they can get.
Abilene, SASS # 27489
I like and use N320 these days in my .38's (3.2gr with mag primer and 125gr bullet), but the V-V powders have always been on the higher end of the price spectrum here in the states. Not nearly as bad as y'all, though! Good luck.
JP Remington
Hey mate, I put a few of these loads into GRT and they look pretty accurate. I didn't bother with a cylinder gap in the calculations so the speed is a bit higher, but pressure is well within limits. It's predicting you may get some un-burnt powder but not a big deal. N320 has a pretty solid calibration score so I would have confidence in the load data. Edited May 20 by JP Remington
Wild Eagle
I have been running 3.4 grains of N320 behind a 105 grain bullet at 1.500 OAL in 38 special brass. Nice load for me, but I seem to like a little more recoil than many of the guys I shoot with. I would try 3.2 grains with a 125 grain bullet.
Equanimous Phil
Here's two other threads about N320 for .38s: Vihtavuori N320 for cowboy loads - SASS Wire - SASS Wire Forum (sassnet.com) Vihtavuori N320 - SASS Wire - SASS Wire Forum (sassnet.com) I use N320 a lot, but only for .45 Colt and 9mm Para as I don't shoot .38s.
Buckshot Bear
Its super clean IMO. I'm very happy to have now many many years of N320, N330, Clean Shot (Lovex DO32) stored away from the shipments that have come into Australia and also built up my primer stockpile from those huge shipments that have come in lately. All the members of my club have been able to purchase as much powder and primers as they wanted.
