Major E A Sterner #12916 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Can anyone give me a line on replacement buttons used on CAS clothes(Vests mostly) I was going throught my outfits and found a bunch missing buttons.Local fabric stores don't have anything close. Thanks.
Black Hills Barb Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Take pics of the buttons and try to measure them. Then send the info to me. I have odds and ends of some that might be what you need. I've sent some out to other cowboys in the past. No promises, but I'll give it my best shot.
Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Riverjunction.com has replacement buttons.
Chancy Shot, SASS #67163 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I had a Scully bibbed shirt. Every time I washed it a button would fall off. I would sew it back on, but the next time some other button would fall off. I went to my local sewing/fabric store and bought a new set that looked good with the shirt and replaced them all. Problem solved. You could just replace them all. Chancy (whose mother taught him how to replace a button.) Shot
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I've bought from Buckaroo Bobbins at major matches. (I too can replace a button and sew.)
Jim Brown Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I found some replacement buttons I needed here. https://buttonbird.com/collections/southwest?page=7
Black Hills Barb Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Here's a couple helpful hints to keep from losing buttons. Metal buttons, especially those with shanks sometimes chew right through thread. Use dental floss or heavy duty thread to replace those that you didn't totally use. A small file might even help to remove the sharp edge that is causing the problem. Other times you lose buttons could be because one pull on the thread and it unravels entirely. This applies to shank buttons and those with holes. Nail polish will keep them from unraveling. I use Fray Check on all my buttons, but a dab of nail polish works well too.

I remove the bib and put the shirt sans bib in the mesh bag. Wash it along with my other clothes. Dry it in the mesh bag too. Haven't lost a button since doing this.
Kid Rich Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 I have had that problem with cowboy shirts. It seems like they use garbage for thread or in case of metal buttons they do cut thru the thread. As much as those shirts sell for they should last longer. I have two of the Wrangler shirts that are over 50 yrs old and they are still intact with all their buttons. kR
Rough 'N Ready Rob Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Try turning your shirts inside out when you wash and dry them, this has help for me. I did lose a button once, went back to the store I bought the shirt from, they had a replacement button. Rob
Not Dead Ed Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 I know it’s a bit late to the conversation, but I lost a button too. I just called Scully and they sent me replacements.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 'Couple of suggestions. Give Wild West Mercantile a shout and send 'em a picture. Same same with Sculley. OR: NONE OF THE ABOVE. Just pop into your local Fabric store (Jo Ann Fabrics) and get a bag of "boys buttons". No sewing required. Just put 'em in wid a hammer. Replace the whole set at one time. Done.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 You can replace buttons? I just buy new shirts.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 PLUS ONE for Pettifogger - Absolutely I just said the heck with it two days ago and sprang for a brandy new vest. Comes with brandy new buttons too
