Alpo Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 In your residential neighborhood - if you don't live in a residential neighborhood you can ignore this question - do you stop at stop signs? In my neighborhood they generally do not. They will slow down, but because it's residential, usually at the corner you can see if anything is coming. So people will slow down to about 5 miles an hour and turn the corner. If they're crossing the intersection, you can see the car go forward when they apply the brakes and then rock backwards when they take the foot off, and they drive through, but very seldom to people come to a complete stop. I do. Not because I'm such a "boy I need to obey the traffic laws" type fella. More because I'm such a "I don't want to give the city any damn money for a fine" type fella.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I always come to a stop and I expect others to do the same. It was a good habit I picked up 65+ plus years ago in Driving School. Blowing STOP signs can be expensive as a neighbour found out after he did just that and hit the car that had the right-of-way. All caught on video dash camera. It affected his insurance significantly.
Texas Lizard Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 99.9 % of the time...Taught that way in drivers training in high school....Have I missed a few, yes....But I am old school....Was out earlier today...Almost ran over by a jeep...No spot, just went right threw it and turned in front of me....Starting to see way to much of this... Rye Miles #13621 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I’ll be honest not always in a neighborhood I know well. If I don’t know the neighborhood absolutely I will make a complete stop.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 When I lived in such a neighborhood. I did. Never felt I had enough both way visibility to do otherwise, we had trees and bushes.
Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Always do. For one thing, there are a lot of kids in the neighborhood. Including some of my grandchildren.
Cypress Sun Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I've rolled a few in my own neighborhood. I come to almost a complete stop and look for traffic but technically, I'm running a stop sign. I never do it in unfamiliar areas, especially residential neighborhoods. I seem to see more and more people just blow right through stop signs (red lights also) without even tapping the brakes while staring at their damn cell phones.
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Always. It's just a good habit to get in to. That way, you don't forget to when you need to.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Yes I do, BUT I'm not beyond running a light if there isn't any traffic for block or so. I'm much smarter than an electro-mechanical timed gadget.
Subdeacon Joe Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 In the mobile home park, there are only a couple, and I usually do a California Rolling Stop is nobody is coming. In the neighborhoods around us, unless I'm driving at 0:Dark I come to a full stop. There is one left turn light at a "T" intersection , the East/West crossing the "T" and the left onto it, that a couple of times a month doesn't cycle properly. As in you sit there for 4 or 5 cycles, at least, and it still doesn't change. Usually in the morning. After the 3rd cycle I'll just go and make the turn.
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Always come to a complete stop at stop signs.
