Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I've been without one for nearly a week and have no other way except this site, snail mail, of a drive by to contact anyone. Bought a new one had it ready to go but when I activated it the old phone was shut down and the new one is defective. Well, CRAP! With all the physical problems I have had recently I have to count on my Life Alert system. My friends and family have no way to contact me. it's Christmas time and I'll miss a lot of calls. Hell, I can't even make any obscene calls to phone companies.
PowderRiverCowboy Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Well look on the Bright side, you at least have people to call , Mine never rings unless its a scammer . guess the cell reception in Cemetery isn't great . I truly hate this time of year. If it wasnt for kids i would just skip it.
Michigan Slim Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 I do believe your old phone can still call 911 even if deactivated.

Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Forty, if you're able to get on here, I presume that you have internet. Maybe you can go the the website of your phone provider, (Version, AT&T, or whoever), and contact them by Chat and ask for help. Does your phone use a SIM card? If so, you should be able to reinstall it in your old phone.
Pat Riot Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Forty Rod, I never leave the phone store without having them do the transfer. I am tech savvy enough with these things to be my greatest impediment in getting them working. You should take it back a make them make it work. If a phone store tech says “It’s simple. Just blah, blah, blah.” I say “Prove it. Show me.” If he or she balks I remind them that “I am the customer and I need your expertise.” The words “your expertise” gets them every time. I am not opposed to messaging someone’s ego to get my way.
Lone Spur Jake SASS #7728 Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 What cell phone service company are you dealing with? If you can't get it resolved by this Thur. morning Zeke's breakfast with our cowboy folks, we will get it fixed for you.

Their Geek Squad couldn't get it working and they wouldn't replace it without going through their corporate office. I'll never go back there again.

I explained that I DIDN'T HAVE A FUNCTIONING PHONE, but the dumb SOBs obviously didn't read it. Finally spent $50.00 and three hours at Tuff Techies and am having a new phone sent to me ready to go. All I have to do is charge it up and spend another three hours re-entering my contact list....again.

The last phone of theirs worked well, but this one's "defective" so I'm getting a new one sent....in 3-4 days. See you Thursday

Well, learn from this and move forward. Who’s your carrier? Perhaps go to them and see if they can help.
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 21, 2023 Author Posted December 21, 2023 The carrier is Lively. I understand it is owned by Best Buy. I understand the Cricket phones are also their brand, but when the phones work they are so simple even a dinosaur like me can work them. Anyway, it's solved now......or will be when the replacement phone gets here.................and if it works. I just love how the past comes back to bite you. I have worked with computers since 1966, back when they promised that computers would save time (questionable), paper (in a pig's arse it did), and it introduced us to chat, warped 80-80 IBM cards, static electricity problems, vibration shut downs, etc ), paper (and how's that working out?), manpower (my operation went from 16 people to 29), save money (have you priced any top-of-the -line home computer systems recently), make communications faster and better (totally BS), and simplify our lives (still trying to find the lying SOB that sold that crap to everyone).
