Lawdog Dago Dom Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 We have a good sized Amish community in Polk County. At a Walmart I saw an Amish man asking for turpentine. The clerk went through a shelf full of mineral spirit containers, but the man would not budge. I don't know what his task was, but turpentine was the answer. Thanks for the video. But now after seeing all of the stuff that turpentine can be used to make, I understand why he was so determined to get it.
Eyesa Horg Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Looked like what my Dad called creosote. He used it on fence posts etc.
Alpo Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Creosote is a byproduct of burning pine. It is used industrially for waterproofing and insect repellent. Telephone poles are soaked in creosote so they don't rot. Railroad ties are also, for the same reason. And if you burn a lot of pine in your fireplace - especially green pine - creosote will gather in your chimney, thatAND is the main cause of chimney fires.
