Lawdog Dago Dom Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Caught this on the Trex Arms page on Instagram.
Cypress Sun Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 That explains why Alliant powders have disappeared again after becoming plentiful in mid/late 2023. What do you want to bet that they become widely available again after 1/1/2024.

Or could it be a ramp up in production in 2024 with the higher prices like you suggest, or simply the fact that a lot of folks just can't afford buying in quantity anymore? 1K primers, 1# of powder, 500 lead bullets and you have $150 invested.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 They have already doubled the price of primers in the last 3 years. What's 5% more?
Silver Creek Jack Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 “Anticipated global shortage of gunpowder” is the key sentence here, hang on to your wallet boys here we go again!
Pb Mark Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Ran across some technical literature from Europe last year that I found interesting. It directly had to do with some of the gunpowder shortages America, EU and Australia faced for a few years. In the EU, they classified some of the very miniscule portions of most of our powders as carcinogens and ordered their removal. Australia and America complied too with this order.... A few powders were listed as exempt. As powders once again entered the market, they are now either exempt or reformulated to remove the listed carcinogens.
Pb Mark Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Related to the Vista price increases: REACH COMPLIANCE - List of Powders | The Stalking Directory This is a bit of quick, interesting supporting information having maybe to do with some of the powder price increases and lack of availability we recently experienced. Laws do change, laws do get challenged in court, politicians also change, etc. Guess what I'm trying to say is that some of this BS is in a state of flux. If this link doesn't work, I tried.
Wyatt Earp SASS#1628L Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 I noticed that primer prices have increased at Sportsman's Warehouse from $5.99 per hundred to $7.99 per hundred.
Pb Mark Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Just read in American Rifleman that Vista owns RCBS. Did not know that.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Here is an article in Newsweek expanding on the Vista memo. I'd stock up on "sale" primers now and purchase reloading powder when/if available.

Especially with hazmat, I'd much rather be able to order 2-4 jugs of powder versus having to order one at a time and eat all that shipping and hazmat on one jug.
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Black powder has military uses too. Soot Lords may experience powder shortages.

Vista owns just about every outdoor brand - REI, Camelback, as well as the ammo/primers. They have sold the ammo/primer/powder side to a CZech group - probably awaiting approval… guess Vista is just trying to get the last $$$ while they can. I guess $1.91 billion doesn’t go as far as it used to. Hugs! Scarlett. PS no proposed price increase on Clean Shot. Ginex Primers haven’t gone up either. I couldn’t get link to article to paste. Colt CZ made competing offer that was rejected. CZ Group is who won the bid. Google it if you want more information. The Czechoslovak Group Enters into Definitive Agreement to Acquire Vista Outdoor’s Sporting Products Business for $1.91 Billion

That has indeed happened, I was there yesterday and the federal gm200’s had a shelf price of 7.99 but rang up as .9.99. Guy said price just went up. That’s like 25% not 5%!!!
Pb Mark Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Just came back from the big box sporting goods store. Powder and primer supply pretty poor vs a month ago. Limit 2. W231 was $40 per pound. HP-38 was $36 per pound, so you know what I bought. Remington small pistol primers were $70/1000. Other brands $80/1000. "We are living in a material world......". A free market becomes a freely manipulated market very easily. Opened my wallet, ate some oats and said baaaahhh walking out of the store. Did I need the primers and powder? Not really.
Rustler, SASS #33316 Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Just to be on the safe side (hoarder), I just purchased 8 LBs of Titegroup. Powder and Primers have become more valuable than Gold.... :-)
Scarlett Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Interesting article. Talks about global issues - wars in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza. No mention of the $1.91 BILLION sale of the ammo/shooting side of their monopoly business. https://www.newsweek.com/ammo-prices-set-rise-substantially-vista-outdoor-firearms-1850528 Hugs! Scarlett
watab kid Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 sounds to me like they got lucrative contracts to produce products they were already manufacturing , why the increases ? should just consider the windfall of demand and meet it , UNLESS they are woefully understaffed and under machined ...so we get to fund their expansion , im not buying this BS , they know the demand they know what they need - buck up and cover the needs
