Dang. I was not aware they had M16s during the Korean War.

But obviously they did, otherwise how would that obnoxious old fart know how the gun worked?

Us obnoxious old farts can work damn near any gun that comes along and I earned the right to be obnoxious to any young puke that tries to talk down to me or treat me like  don't know anything or in any way whatsodamnedever with even a hint of disrespect.

I walk in step with people. 5 years of marching band. Hard habit to get out of.

Hogan's Heroes episode. Hogan and Schultz are walking across the compound, and Schultz is in step with Hogan. So Hogan skips to get out of step, then Schultz skips to get back in step, then Hogan skips to get out again. And they just skip their way across the compound. :D

Worst thing about any kind of roadwork on a flattop -- the steel deck is totally unforgiving. It'll wreak havoc on your lower body.

Non-Skid is extremely hard on boot soles.

Had an “hog” incident at Graf up on the Forward Observation Post. One soldier was being a pain in the “fourth point of contact” all day. That night someone apparently smeared peanut butter on the foot of his fart sack and left the flap of the tent open just a hair. Middle of the night you hear him screaming “they’re eating me!”  Hogs had drug him out of the tent and were shredding his bed roll. It was February so he was zipped up tight and couldn’t get out. We eventually ran them off but he had to sleep in a ventilated sleeping bag the rest of the field problem. Funny, he was a model soldier after that.

I was walking the gunline at Graf late one night and went back to the messline to check on the cleanup detail.  Came around the back of the 5 ton and found my detail up in the truck, hiding.  There was a hog in the messline.  It had knocked over the table and was crushing C ration cans to ease out what was inside and drinking out of the mermite container.  Never signed the mess log..

Graf could be a hoot at times

One foot in mud, one foot in snow, and dust blowing in your face.  Graf.  My first landlord in West Germany was a member of Rommel's Africa Corp.  He trained at the same places in Graf we did - with the same wonderful experiences...

A Heidelberg dueling scar on the cheek, in Germany, to this day gives the wearer instant and profound respect.

As dueling is now verboten, the new vogue is to acquire a scar on the calf from hunting boar.

With a spear.

Buck Knives make a German boar spear for that purpose.

I understand it is not imported into the US.
