And I still thank God for them and for the Christian Ladies' Reading Society who brought books of all kinds to us.... by  the big box full once every other week.

This is the non-sexy part of military operations.

Unless you're a certified forklift operator, you take one look at this and say, "no thanks."

Because you're a killer, right?

A true warrior?

Tactical expert?

Ready to kick down doors and put warheads on foreheads?

Navy SEAL / Green Beret wannabe, right?

Or maybe an actual SOF Operator?

But yet, you want your tough box with all your goodies, right?

Or your weapons.

Or your radios.

Or any of the other necessary equipment to actually do your job.

We don't make movies about this.

People don't celebrate this type of work.

We take it all for granted.

But it's what makes ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of the rest of it possible.

Just a dude or dudette and their forklift.

With your SI container.

And a ton of coffee.

Stay caffeinated out there.

King Philip II, the Macedonian ruler, father of Alexander the Great, after taking most of the Greek city-states sent a letter to Laconia, Sparta.

It said, "You were advised to submit without further delay. For, if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people and raze your city".

To which the Spartans replied with one word: "if".

In my 81mm Mortar Platoon, we were regularly described as a cross between Baa Baa Black Sheep, F Troop, and McHale's Navy. We had a VARIED cast of characters at the time.

We even had a guy that could pass for a young Andy Griffith.

As a GS employee, I have to say this depends. I'm a GS-13, and in my position I have ZERO authority over any service member. But my previous boss, as a GS-14, was primary rater for a Brigade XO and senior rater for every single other officer O-3 and above in the Brigade. So, he may not have told the O-6 what to do, but he certainly told the O-5s what to do as the Brigade Deputy Commanding Officer (Germany is weird).

All of that said, there are way too many GS employees who believe they have some kind of actual authority when they absolutely do NOT and make the rest of us look bad!
