Cholla Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Does anyone still make a pocket swager to change the primer pocket from Large Rifle to Large Pistol? I have one but don’t have access to it at the moment. Every swager I see is for removing crimps on military brass.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 ??? Large rifle and large pistol are both .210.

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 I can see making it deeper, but how do you make a primer pocket shallower? You have my curiosity peaked so I came back and edited this post. Why would anyone want to do this?

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 I have used large pistol primers while shooting some BP cartridges. They seat a tad deeper but work just fine.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 PLUS ONE for Pettifogger !! I don't mean to be sarcastic (yes I do) but it would seem to be Oxymoron. The only way I know to make a primer pocket shallower is to fill it in. Actually changing from LR to LP accomplishes nothing. the firing pin will still reach a LP Primer.

I think there's a tool that basically compresses the pocket from the inside...therefore making the pocket depth a bit shallower...I think... Phantom

That is what it does but it is only about .002-.003". Hardly worth the effort.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Well I'll be. Never hear of it before. Still, my previous applies. Oxymoron. No benefit at all??
Sedalia Dave Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 For long range BPCR shooting the lower brisance of LPP vs LRP gives lower SD and ES numbers.
Seth Bradford Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 The only tool I have every heard of was made by Kermit Hoke but I’m not sure if he’s still in business, possibly retired??
