Hot, hot, hot. World record.

The Guinness World Records title of "hottest chili pepper" has been awarded to "Pepper X," which clocks in 2,693,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), the publication announced in a press release on Oct. 16.

Pepper X is a specially crossbred pepper created by Ed Currie, owner of PuckerButt Pepper Co. in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and his "Carolina Reaper" pepper that previously held the world record for hottest chili pepper.

The Carolina Reaper had an average 1,640,000 SHU. As the Scoville scale is logarithmic, that means that Pepper X is about three times as spicy as the Carolina Reaper.

Wonder if it has any flavor!  If it’s just hot, you can substitute capsicum for it.  If it has real flavor, I would be interested in cooking with it!

Flavor is important. Just hot without flavor is…

stupid!

Why?

I’m with Blackeater.  Heat without flavor makes no sense.  Might as well eat CS gas.

:lol::lol: “BLACKEATER”!!:lol: :lol:

Sounds like Schoolmarm when she thinks I’m eating too much!   B)

(yes! I know it’s a typo! It’s still HILARIOUS!)

Good for Pucker Butt Pepper Co.

I will never try that pepper or most hot peppers. I enjoy spicy foods. I don’t enjoy trying to endure foods.

No idea how hot these are. Scared to try. I have four of these plants. My best friend:Cedar River Kid’s Wife has a Korean restaurant. She wants all of them. Although I ate crap as hot as I could, as long as flavor came thru, now I cant. These Bad boys will send you to the hospital if not prepared properly. I Bet I could Get them Tennessee boys to try them. Might have to have some shine to get them there, But they try. Maybe stick some in shined up nanner splits.

Nah!  I just like to experiment with peppers, if they have any flavor, in some of my recipes.

Ok the “one chip challenge “ was a publicity effort which resulted in death of a teen.  It was a Carolina reaper.

from Wikipedia:

The One Chip Challenge is an internet challenge in which participants must eat one extremely spicy Paqui Carolina Reaper chip and avoid eating or drinking anything afterwards. The challenge has been tried by celebrities and social media personalities, and it has garnered criticism for negative associated health effects.

In September 2023, after a 14-year-old boy died on the same day he took the challenge, Paqui immediately withdrew and discontinued the chips from any further sales and indefinitely stopped publicity for the challenge. It is currently under investigation whether the fatality was diretly due to consuming the chip, or if other health factors were at play. The teen's death led to the chip being banned in many retail stores nonetheless.[1][2]

Wow. Ive heard of part of this among heat enthusiasts but never knew the rest. Thanks MMH. I think these internet challenges among our youth is out of control.

Mainly this photo is for size comparison and Blackwater cause he is going to use them , but also a question for anyone else. We’ve had cooler temps here and i noticed that they are starting to shrivel up a bit. Is that bad? I’m going to string them up anyway. What if anything will be the effect on the pepper of the shriveling? I’ll save some for next years planting.

Hey Blackwater. I hope this will be enough for a start since I did promise Cedar River Kids wife to supply her a bunch for her restaurant

That’s perfect! The shriveling is probably just the result of them ripening completely and starting to dehydrate on their own.

Had to eat some Boarshead pickles after the stringing. Notice the cigar! Bad move. The small amount of juice from stringing slowly accumulated on my fingers then onto my cigar, then my lips. Man my lips are fricking burning. Thank god I didn’t rub my eyes. That cigar got thrown away immediately upon realizing what I did. I’m really feeling kinda dumb right now.

Strung and ready to be Hung like a Bad Cowboy!

I’ll bet you do! I’m having a t-shirt made with it. 2 in fact. One for me and the other for my gun bud Cedar River Kid. It was to me a stroke of genius. You could have a lot of fun marketing to fellow Cowboys. It’s your baby and cant wait to see what you do with it. Keep me posted.

I would like to add a tidbit of information I’ve learned from diving into this post courtesy of Okie Sawbones. Peppers seem to grow crazy on my property, as well as tomatoes and squash. Everything else looks like something from another planet. Anyway

I planted four Poblano pepper plants this year. We’ve already smoked and eaten at least 2 dozen.

Heres what I learned this post in my research.

1. Leave Poblano on the plant until they turn a purple/reddish tint.

2. Pick and string, then hang like other peppers.

3. Once dried, they are now referred to as Ancho Chiles and they obtain a natural smoky flavor. ( Never Knew that one.)

4. Guess what I’m doing today.

Not picking! They ain’t turned yet. I’m gonna prevent the wife from picking and freezing em anymore  LOL

Wife doesn't like hot, and she runs the gardens.  Lots of Banana Peppers this year.  Use them in all sorts of recipes.

When my wife and I bought our house in Huntington Beach California, there were pepper plants all over the place in the backyard. Whoever owned that house before us loved various hot peppers.
There were these little tiny Asian peppers they were bright red about the size of a fingernail, the hottest thing ever put in my mouth. After eating one of those I was sweating profusely and my mouth and my throat were on fire I chopped a couple of them up and put them in chili and the chili was spicy but it was good, but after cutting up the peppers and putting them in the chili, I made the mistake of rubbing my eyes because I was sweating. I ended up going to the urgent care clinic. They flushed my eyes out with cool saline water for a while until it cooled off.

My eyes were red for a couple of days.
There were 30 pepper plants I dug up and put in gallon containers and I took the to work and gave them away. The Vietnamese guys were thrilled about the little evil red peppers and the little houndstooth peppers.
We kept some Jalapeño, Ortega, Poblano, Sweet Italian and green pepper plants.
One of the reasons we got rid of the hot pepper plants was our dog kept eating them and we were afraid she’d get sick.
Roxy was a lot tougher than I was, eating those hot peppers. I am pretty sure there were some ghost peppers and habaneros too.

I’d snip the stems, dry them and grind them up to make a powder.

For your next trick, figure out how much to use and where.

Update:

The harvest is done, strung and hung. One entire string will be for collecting seeds. These, and poblanos, and other peppers will my crop focus for next year. I’m getting a lot of requests for them locally, but Ive already made promises to the restaurant and Blackwater for these. HHHM! Could be an easy resource for me.

Ill make sure to get feedback from Blackwater and Ceder River Kids wife at the restaurant and share it here.

I AM hoping that they produce a good flavor as well as some heat.

There’s a BFS convenience store near me that had a display rack of these things. There was a sign on the rack and at the front counter that said “If you purchase a One Chip Challenge DO NOT EAT IT ON THE PREMISES OF THIS STORE!”

I asked the counter lady what the deal was with this. She explained the challenge “the idiot challenge” she called it. Then she said there was a drunk guy that bought a chip, ate it at the counter then vomited all over the place. Hence the signs.
