Booze question

How long will distilled spirits last once they have been decanted? If you were to take your 7 ounce pocket flask and your quart bottle of bourbon, and pour whiskey out of your bottle into your flask, and then cap your flask. How long would your booze remain good?

Just about every other beverage - if you open the container it came in and poured into something else - it will go bad sooner or later because of the air that is in the container you poured into.

Does booze do that? I realize that I could buy a half pint bottle of booze and stash it away and not have the transfer query. But my 7 ounce pocket flask is made of stainless steel and my half pint bottle of booze is made of glass. Seems like my pocket flask would last longer. Would not break if it was dropped, or if it was in the bottom of a duffel and something heavy was dropped on it.

Well, I routinely pour scotch into a cut glass decanter, and gin from large bottles into a commemorative fifth bottle.  Seems to last just fine, and I don't usually drink scotch in the Summer or Gin in the Winter, so some time is involved.  I have never kept a half pint pocket flask for more than a couple of days, so no info there.

Depends on proof. High test hooch is mostly alcohol with some stuff to add flavor. The flavor stuff is what goes bad. Enough alcohol and bacteria cannot live in it

So you're saying everclear on theOUGHT TO last forever, but some 30 proof peppermint schnapps or raspberry vodka or some crap like that would go bad rather quickly?

That helps.

It'll last a long time if it's well-stoppered.

That also is quite helpful. So if you filled your flask full up, and screwed the lid on tightly, it should last for a long time?

@AlpoYep straight slash pure ethyl alcohol will still hit ya hard years later. Pure will evaporate before it turns.

We put whiskey in a oak barrel for 25 years THEN drink it.

Mostly sugar or cream based appaterifs will go sour on ya.
