Chantry
I have almost 16,000 songs on my (old) iPod and I'm always looking for new music that I might like. There's music on there that many of you have heard of, such as Sinatra, Buddy Guy, the Rolling Stones and far more that most of you probably haven;t heard of like Joanne Shaw Taylor, Kinky or Tinariwen. I found Kinky (Mexican electronica) watching a NCIS episode, Charles Bradley (soul) and Christone Kingfish Ingram (blues) watching a Marvel TV show. Most of the time though I find stuff on iTunes where one musician or genre will lead to other music, either by the recommendations or sometimes what musicians influenced or were influenced by a particular musician or band. Doc Shapiro
I use YouTube. Watching a video of a song can take me down a rabbit hole of other artists. Spotify will do the same.
LawMan Mark, SASS #57095L
+1 for Youtube. I recently found a channel of instrumental blues, called the blues lounge. I can spend hours with it playing in the background of whatever I'm doing.

Smuteye John SASS#24774
Wherever I run into a song that catches my fancy. TV shows, commercials, radio, walking through a parking lot, in a restaurant or coffee shop, falling down YouTube rabbit holes, suggestions in the Saloon, ... wherever I find it. I got the Soundhound app on my phone so I can find out what the title of a song and the artist by just letting the app hear a little bit of it. That helps me find a starting point for deciding if I like an artist's work or not.

I just pulled my MP3 directory... 67,774 files, 4,790 folders, 683 GB. And fully backed up in multiple places. Losing decades of accumulation would be a heart-stopper. It's fully backed up on my computer and partially backed up on another MP3 player. Which is a reminder for me to back that MP3 player up again. And thank you! When I went to find the backup MP3 player I also found a charging cord for something I else that I had been looking for over a month.
bgavin
If you have the ability to burn to DVD, I advise making two copies and storing in a safe place. All computer media degrades, even the Archival media products. Multiple copies in different (and remembered) locations is the key. It is like having a full snake bite kit on a picnic... then you never get bit. Consider DVDs with critical data, documents and photos in your safe deposit box at the bank. Merde Occurs™ and you don't want to experience this.
Smuteye John SASS#24774
I converted my CD collection to digital, so most of what I have is already hard copy backed up. The bad news is that it takes days to upload that much music from CD's. Been there, did that over 2 full weekends- twice. That's why I have a full copy on the desktop and laptop- along with a copy on USB and a couple Micro SD cards so I can use a tablet or phone to play my music. Chuck Biel's punk jazz would find it. There are two sources I use primarily to find new stuff. YouTube And Amazon prime music....put on a station in the style you are after and start liking songs that tickle you...it will start recommending others.
