sassnetguy50
We made the roadtrip and saw this functional homebuilt steamer from 1934. The sign showed an internal diagram of the boiler. It did not say if it was an assembly line boiler of the day or if it was also homemade. There is a cylinder on each side of the bike. Notice the passenger had to be careful not to lean back and probably wanted to tie up long hair. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1088593/1934-steam-cycle/

Cheatin Charlie
People ride bikes for different reasons. I loved to travel and explore new places. An old air cooled BMW was my mode of travel. My best ride I had was left Ohio and headed west by myself. Three weeks later I got home on Friday time to go to work on Monday, Here is my BMW riding Bear Tooth Pass highway. Gave up about 10 years ago too many crazy drivers and my reflexes slowed down.

Subdeacon Joe
More photos : https://www.yesterdays.nl/product/styria-1907-5½hp-764cc-2-cyl-sv-2508/ Styria 1907 “Type IIIb” 5 ½ HP 764cc side valve v-twin ZL combination frame & engine # 599 In 1891 Johann Puch founded a bicycle factory in the Austrian town of Graz. His bicycles were sold under the “ Styria” name, the Latin name of the Steiermark area where Graz is situated. Puch left Styria in 1897 when most of the shares were taken over by Dürkopp from Bielefeld. In 1899 Puch started a new company to produce bicycles and later on motorcycles and cars. Remarkably though Puch’s name was to remain on the headstock badges of Styria bicycles and motorcycles till 1909. Styria built motorcycles in the period 1905-1908. This sturdy combination must be one of very few Styria survivors. It has direct drive to the rear wheel via a flat leather belt and is fitted with a shaft-driven “high and dry” Bosch magneto that is placed in a compartment of the petrol tank. The machine has been restored a number of years ago.

Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Had a nice '54 pan, but the first photo here is my favorite. Had a '37 80 inch flathead, a '49 45 incher, and my absolute favorite of all was my 55 inch KR. It was Joe Leonard's '59 factory racer, and I was 3rd owner. Loved those sidevalves..... applied all the tricks from the old Ford flathead days....relieve the cylinder, tulip the valves, flycut the head at the valve area and then mill head down a little to restore compression lost to the machining. Those were the days......
