Ozark Huckleberry Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I had a 1917 U.S. Navy Bluejackets Manual (donated it to the WO School museum in Pensacola back in '99) that had foldout pages with sailing ship rigging detailed.
Black Angus McPherson Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 I think those old sailors must have been genius' in their own right. I look at all that stuff and it might as well be calculus to me. Maybe they wouldn't have a clue how to drive a car, but I've got no clue how to remember, much less use, all those ropes, lines, blocks, stays, bolsters and stuff. Angus

I have dad’s 1946 Bluejacket Manual. There’s no ship rigging, but there are 6 pages of knot tying and splicing diagrams. The small arms chapter is interesting.
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 well , around here , we have engines on the boats ain't no need for all that rigging , no more CB
