Griff Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 (edited) So now the ROA so converted is essentially a cartridge revolver. No more cap failures or fragments to contend with. How many Frontiersmen are on the Rules C ommittee? Those in possession of ROA (out of production) have a distinct & IMO unfair advantage. Edited August 9, 2023 by Griff 1
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 The original mod request came from the U.K. The primary purpose is to convert ROA revolvers to shooter nitro (smokeless) powder with additional modifications and proof testing due to the fact that cartridge revolvers are NOT ALLOWED in the U.K. Additional information can be found on the manufacturere's WEBSITE. Also:Please note we DO NOT TRADE outside of the United Kingdom 4
Griff Posted August 9, 2023 Author Posted August 9, 2023 Ok, I'll dial back the rhetoric. But keep it limited to the UK. To quote someone else: "Leave Frontiersman alone!" 3
Artemus Von Schutze Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Allow it to be be duelist or gunfighter and then leave Frontiersman alone. 1 2
Cholla Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 What's to stop someone from making them on this side of the pond? I suspect many on this board have the skills and tools to make something close. 1
Cahawbakid Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I’m with you Griff . This puts things on a slippery slope, I feel. The Ruger OA already had an advantage over the regular folks, now we are in an equipment race ”Leave Frontiersman Alone”! 2
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 IMO All SHB references to percussion revolvers specify "CAP/CAPS/CAPPED"...NOT "PRIMER/PRIMERS/PRIMED"....so a 209-primed revolver would NOT be allowed in FRONTIERSMAN. 4 3

Griff Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 Hopefully, TG's, MD's & RO's will get that word... 3
Smokestack SASS#87384 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Does this rule change apply only to ROAs, or to all cap and ball revolvers? If an ROA so modified is no longer considered a percussion revolver, what then is it, and where is it allowed to be used? Will this verbiage be removed from the SHB? “- All center-fire or rim-fire ammunition must be designed to package the bullet, gunpowder, and primer into a single metallic case precisely made to fit the firing chamber of the firearm. The primer must be of the type that uses only a small charge of impact sensitive chemical that may be located at the center of the case head or at its rim.” 1
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I believe it was Noz who was fond of saying...."LEAVE FRONTIERSMAN ALONE!" 2 2

Please note the "IMO" in that post. That is NOT an "official" ruling/clarification...it's my personal opinion. Hoss Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I may be thick in the head, but the statement “we do not trade outside the UK” puzzles me. I take it to mean that this company won’t convert a revolver and ship it to US. Am I reading ghat correctly? my question for PWB/ROC is if Joe Gunsmith at his kitchen table is able to convert a ROA to work with 209 primers would it be legal for frontiersman, or any SASS category/side match, shooting any sort of powder?
Sedalia Dave Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Time to tell your TG to have the rules for Frontiersman updated to make pistols that have been converted to 209 primers illegal for use in the Frontiersman category. 1

I just sent an email to the ROC as to whether the mod approval should be amended to apply ONLY in the U.K. Also regarding my opinion as to whether it should be restricted to specific categories. GO TO THE COMPANY WEBSITE and READ what is required to use a modified revolver with nitro/smokeless powder. LOCKING THIS DOWN UNTIL I receive input from the ROC. 1 1
