I’m shopping shotguns and I had a 20 gauge SKB SXS cut down to a coach gun that end up with Tin Can Sailor for his daughter. I bought it for my wife in an attempt to entice her into CAS. It wasn’t for her and she doesn’t really like guns. I know, she’s a strange woman, but she’s mine.

Anyway, as I’m looking for a possible skeet gun in an over and under I looked at SKB. But SKB is now Turkish made and in my opinion, that’s wrong. SKB made a name for Japanese quality and while Turkey is improving, they ain’t that.

At least when Browning went to Miroku it was more of a lateral move quality-wise. Belgian Browning owners please don’t lynch me;).

So my question is; if it’s made in a different country, by a different company, is it really an SKB shotgun?

Not all Turkish guns are equal. I’ve seen Tri-Stars that are junk to put it politely, and Weatherbys that are quite nice quality. There are hundreds or more manufacturers in that country, don’t judge them all by the work turned out by a few.

The current Turkish made SKB SxS is a nice Gun.... If you want one for hunting Dove or something then Go For It!!!

They are very nice looking, well made guns and You'll be Very Happy.

But it is a completely different design than the Japanese made SKB's !

.....It is NOT the same shotgun that CAS shooters Love...... And IMHO is not really well suited for our Game.....

If I Had to, For CAS I'd choose a well tuned Stoeger or Baikal over a Turkish SKB.

I'm Happy I already own 2 SKB's  B)

I bought a new SKB then found out it was made in Turkey, I was not happy. Turns out it was a realy well made gun, the maker they use, Akus, is considered to be the best of the Turkish O/U makers. I have a 690 28ga I shoot a lot, it's a great gun. I bet if my dad had bought a Winchester 101, or Browning back in the 60s' and then found out it was made in Japan he would have been upset, but now those a thought of as great guns.

All I know on them is a fellow gunsmith who specializes in SKB's had one come in for his action work. He opened it up, looked it over, boxed it back up and returned it to the owner.
