I never lifted the grass skirt up or peaked under the coconut shells but the red beard was a dead giveaway.

Our posse marshals don't do any appointing, they go on volunteer status only. They will make comments during the stage about those that have shot to please relieve those that haven't but it mostly falls on deaf ears for a lot of the shooters. We will have a core of people that will do all the work while the others just shoot then either spend time at their cart or sit down in the shade.

Those are the kind of people who don't get their brass picked up.;)

Slippery Stew expresses the expectations well: “Everybody WORKS”.

Sometimes you have to take more decisive measures to get people off of their duffs.  Hold up your baton/flag and announce that you need relief.  If there are no “takers”, put your “badge of rank” on a visible prop and go get ready to shoot.  Don’t just continue to spot and enable the slackers.

I never had a problem with "summer dress code"; it's hot and humid here in GA and after shooting in AZ, I get that ya want to have the breeze flowin' through your...  you get it. The problem I have is when it's NOT the summer and we get folks showing up with some kind of boots, Wranglers, a shirt that "makes the rules" and a cowboy hat. Yes, I know you don't have to dress Classic Cowboy to shoot SASS, just make an effort.

If it makes the rules, why not? If you want tougher rules campaign for them, but don't knock folks that are following the current ones.:D

You go ahead and do the bare minimum and "make the rules", that's up to you.

A number of years ago, when Tex was the editor of the Chronicle, he was on a constant "rant" about shooters wearing blue jeans, Wranglers, Levi's, etc. because they weren't "Cowboy" in his opinion.

Amazing thing happened, many shooters started showing up in "blue jeans" that Tex was ranting about.

Tell American citizens that they shouldn't think like, look like, dress like, they think you should and guess what happens.  Many of these new shooters and older shooters were just trying to join in and have some fun.  Don't know about anyone else, but have watched a lot of B-Westerns from the 30's and 40's with John Wayne, Tim Holt, Yakima Canutt (greatest cowboy stunt man ever), etc. who wore blue jeans.

When I first heard of a "B" western category for SASS the first images that came to mind were the simple outfits you commonly saw in the 2nd or 3rd tier westerns. Not just jeans but other plain pants with belts, plain work shirts. A lot of the hats seemed a little on the small side as far as crowns and brims. Plain leather. Some scarves and vests but not everyone decked out in authentic looking gear.

Of course there was Roy Roger's and others with the very fancy outfits and that is what was intended for SASS B western. It just wasn't the image that popped into my head.

I enjoy the dressed to the nines Cowboy look. Chaps spurs, vests. Some of our pards look like they could walk onto a western movie set and fit right in.

A while back I bought a few sets of suspenders and some spurs and even tried a pair of chaps that Iron Cowboy won. I realized pretty quickly I couldn’t walk well in spurs, I kept getting my hand tangled in the suspenders when pulling shot shells and those chaps are hot and chafed me in places that will go unmentioned. I went to jeans and Henley’s and though I don’t look as good, I’m comfortable and less likely to fall on my face.
