Dog cooling vests

Recommended Posts

With this heat lately I thought I'd tell you people with dogs about these vests. My son has a shih tzu that in this heat will walk about to the end of the yard than lay down and refuse to move. He bought one of this type of vest ( maybe not this exact one but similar ).

She walks much better in the heat, if your dog is having trouble with the heat this might work for you.

Thanks for posting this. I had an evaporative vest for motorcycling and even wore it to some matches in the summer. It worked great (until it mysteriously shrunk).

I just ordered one (a different brand, in green camo) for Custer as he really has trouble dealing with hot weather (was 104 yesterday and supposed to be hotter today).

Will check it out. My wife takes our WGSD for walks every morning and they both come back exhausted from the heat. Our dog would walk until she drops, she doesn't like giving up and going home. She loves her walks even in the 100+ heat we are enduring right now in Texas.

Custer's cooling vest just arrived. We'll give it a try tomorrow. It is going to be 100+ for the next four days and close to 100 for awhile after.

My son carries a bottle of water with him to re-wet the vest as needed, I think I'd get a spray bottle.

Took Custer for a walk today and it was 97 deg. He seemed to enjoy the vest and was more active than usual. He did not seek shade constantly and when he was in the shade, he was ready to continue on the walk without any hesitation.

I think he really likes it also as he kept it on without complaint when we came home to further cool off in the house.

Make sure his pads are protected from heat.

Mainly dirt roads around here. If we encounter what little asphalt there is, we go through the brush.

If we are in an urban environment, he has booties to protect his feet.:D
