Don't know if this is germane or not but, Calvary days saw riders wearing one spur to commemorate a fallen brother.
Could be this reason.

Gun show in Bozeman a vendor had a good- looking  (single) spur. Could not produce the other one. Tried to tell me ( I am an old native of the range) that a long time ago the riders could only afford one spur so that is what they bought.

El Lazo, at Winter Range one year, told me a lot of rodeo calf ropers wore only one spur on their left boot.  This way when they jumped off their horse it eliminated the possibility of a spur on their right boot catching on anything.

In the 1950 movie "The Gunfighter" starring Gregory Peck, his friend Marshal Mark only wore one very shiny spur.  First time I ever saw that in a movie.

My wife, Ms. Jewel, shoots a pair of stainless steel Ruger .32 single sixes that were once owned by Joe Bowman. We acquired them from a gentleman who inherited them from an uncle who was a good friend of Joe Bowman.  She has always felt that this pair of guns are special.
