Hunters HD Gold glasses

Recommended Posts

Last month at the Texas State match Hunters GD Gold gave away several gift certificates for glasses. Unfortunately I didn’t win one, but decided to try a pair anyway.

I wear Rx progressive lens glasses for everyday wear. I have more reader correction than distance, so for shooting glasses I had a pair of regular shooting glasses with reader magnification. They worked ok.

the Hunters HD Gold glasses are in my full Rx. I wore them in a match for the first time today. They were GREAT! Everything was much sharper. And the lenses are transitions, so going in/out of buildings they get lighter/darker as conditions change.

At $400 they aren’t cheap, but we’re cheaper than my regular glasses. And provide very good ANSI eye  protection

(which many glasses don’t actually provide) you only have 1 pair of eyes, better protect them!

the ordering process is simple. You look online and select 3 frames. They mail them to you to try on. Make your selection, mark your PD on your selection with a sharpie. Send them back with copy of your RX.they will contact you for pmt info.  2 weeks later they arrive in mail!

I recommend these glasses without reservation, especially for those who have to wear Rx glasses.

I am going through that process right now. My frames to try are supposed to be here Monday but I won't be surprised if its not until Wednesday with the holiday. I'm getting these with my distance prescription for use with an optic. I have a pair of Decot set up for front sight focus that work great for iron sights but they cost twice what they used to be.

Hoss is right about the cost. I went the route of Wiley X from my optometrist office and they did the prescription route from my current prescription. Luckily the guy doing the fitting and going through the process was also a shooter and knew how to adjust my prescription for shooting. They cost about $700 total after buying the Wiley X frames and adding my prescription with all the bells and whistles. They work great but cost almost twice as much as what Hoss just described. Wish I had known about them a couple of  years ago.

I have Wiley x as well. Cost just over $400 . They set my right eye for the front site and left for reading or so. They work well, but a few minutes for my eyes to adjust. Will check out these Hunter's next time. Thanks

Now you are making me wonder why mine were so expensive. Not sure if it was the prescription or they just overcharged me. Oh well, will know next time I need to order new glasses.

Part of the lower cost on mine was the prescription lens were made by the opticians lab instead of Wiley X. The protective coating sucks though, you look at them and they scratch!

In this game at these super close distances I find that  Orange -Yellow lens works best. It is a all around compromise

I have had a pair of Hunters HD for almost a year. Great quality and service. Once I got them the requested information it was only a short time until my prescription glasses were delivered. The first match I wore then a 45 bullet fragmented on a target and a big chunk of lead bounced off the right lens. I am sure my eye would have been injured. What ever I payed for the glasses was worth it.

Brian and his son at Hunters really work with the shooter.

that could be the difference, Wiley X did my lens per the instructions from the optometrist office. They are progressive lens with all the coatings and transition options.

And still wonder if they are actually ballistic type lens. No markings on them, polycarbonate per Pro Optical.

This from their website

OSHA Z87+1,+2 RX ANSI-2020 SAFETY PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR*

All OSHA-approved prescription and non-prescription safety glasses must have markings specified by the ANSI Z87+1-2020 standard on both the lenses and the frame of the eyewear. Hunters HD Gold is rated and tested at ANSI Z87+1-2020 which gives you protection of .25" steel ball traveling at 150 fps. Hunters HD Gold® Rx use Z87+2 Safety Frames as well for prescriptions.

I'd been researching this before trying the Hunters. There are good and bad reviews for every manufacturer.  Many of the shooting glasses have the large ballistic non prescription lens. Then the prescription lenses attach inside behind the bigger lense. I was concerned about the field of vision with them. But from what I understand they are fine too.

The reason I  had doubts was when I first experimented with having my dominant eye lens have a front sight focus it worked but only when standing square to the target. If you had to lean or get in an awkward shooting position it didn't work. Hopefully I'll have the glasses soon. Also some of the shooting glasses have ballistic rated lenses but not frames.

I don’t currently need a prescription for my shooting glasses and bought a pair of Hunter’s Gold the afternoon before the Main Match started at EOT this year. I was a little nervous about shooting with them for the first time at EOT but they worked great. I haven’t regretted buying them at all!

Been shooting in mine for a little over a year now.

Wife has also went to them.

Don't know how many of our club members have gone to them now.

Reviews and good all the way around.

Maverick,

I got the same Wiley X frames you have with Trivex impact resistant progressive lens,  photo chromatic, Scratch coat, UV protection and paid about $260. Check out Safety Rx.

I've bought the last 4 pairs of shooting glass through them. Bessie has ordered 2 or 3 pairs.

About a two week turnaround to get them once order is placed.

My progressive Hunters HD Gold Glasses were $375.. the glasses make everything much crisper and well defined.  The next time you need glasses just ask Hunters HD Gold to put their lenses in your Wiley x frames.

* Full disclosure! I am an authorized retailer of Hunters HD Gold.

Hugs!

Sounds like my optometrist really got into my pockets with their cost of the glasses and lens. They carry the Wiley X frames and I just paid them for the whole work. $700 seemed a lot but I wanted the best I could get at the time and they have saved me a few times from splatter so they paid for themselves but I will be going a different route when I need new lens replacements.

Thanks

Nope, they have taken a few hits from splatter and did what they were supposed to do. The lens were done by Wiley X per the instructions from the doc. It is just that I paid the docs office for everything and it appears they may have padded the bill and overcharged what the lens really cost.
