DeaconKC
Okay, just had an Uberti 1866 rebarreled and it is freaking accurate. Boomstick did a wonderful job on this rifle. However running it today it had several light primer strikes, sometimes it would set them off on a second try but not always. Those the rifle would not fire ALL fired just fine in a Schofield revolver. The rifle had some action work done evidently before I became it's owner and is extremely smooth. And did I mention accurate? Wow. Anyway who has had good results with what springs, I am more concerned with reliability than speed. [Anyone who has shot with me knows you can usually send out for pizza during my runs].
The Original Lumpy Gritz
Are you SURE the primers are seated to the bottom of the primer pocket in the case?

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
If it's just that the mainspring is weak, I'd replace it with a quality mainspring. I run the Smith Shop spring in all my 73s and they set off Federal primers quite well. But since all the stock of those seem to have dried up, I would recommend you use the Sure Hit hammer (main) spring from Long Hunter Supply: https://www.longhunt.com/storelh/index.php?route=product/product&path=88_96&product_id=432 Clean the action well while you are doing that. So many problems stem from not cleaning up the action and the firing pin channel. If you are using primers other than Federal, then just switching to Federals may solve the problem without any work on the gun. Don't get an "ultralight" hammer spring unless you are using only Federal primers! good luck, GJ
DeaconKC
Well, my stock of primers is mostly CCI so I will have to rely on them for several thousand more rounds at least. And this load ]7.5 grains of Unique under a 200 grain RNFP] works in everything else, so I want to get this rifle reliable with this load. It is so easy to run and Jay turned it into a tack driver. Colorado Coffinmaker
Oh crud. CCI primers. Balderdash. But since you're stuck with 'em for the foreseeable, well you're just stuck. Deacon, when folks build CAS Toggle Link Rifles, often overlooked is the Firing Pin Return Spring. The OEM return spring is just too heavy for light Main Springs and CCI. Take a peek at your Firing Pin (replace the OEM with an extended after-market) and source a lighter return spring. Pioneer Gunworks in Oregon, and Cowboys and Indian Shop in AZ have been known to offer both as a package. And, with CCI, you're going to need a bit heavier Main Spring. Not necessarily OEM but a bit heavier. Then you gotta hold yer tongue just right when you shoot
The Original Lumpy Gritz
You can also turn the hammer spring strain screw in 1/2 turn to increase spring tension.

Unless it was added by a smith the 66 doesn't have this screw.
Sedalia Dave
I'm betting Boomstick set it up for Federal primers unless you specifically told him not to.

Abilene, SASS # 27489
I don't know that Boomstick did any action work on Deacon's '66. He was replacing the barrel.

Colorado Coffinmaker
Deacon, OOpsies. I completely forgot about Pioneer Gunworks Coil Spring set up. If they still offer it. Takes a small bit of wood removal to clearance it at the wrist, but it works slicker-n-snot onna door knob. Adjustable spring preload too. Might be just the ticket right after you lokit yer firing pin return spring PS: Deacon, I just checked and Pioneer Gunworks still offer their Coil Spring conversion and the extended Firing Pin and Light Return Spring. One Stop shopping dontcha know

One Stop shopping dontcha know Yup, that is one sweet looking set up. I don't know if I am worth the $200+ it would cost as @cajun bandit can attest they usually time my stages by sundial. But definitely gonna get a new spring [probably 2] for the little beast, as it is a sweet shooter, and dead on as sighted. So now any misses I get with it Bandit can quote me on em! DeaconKC
Well, got the new mainspring [and a spare] on the way. Just couldn't justify the extra cost for the coil spring. Thank you all for all the help.
Colorado Coffinmaker
DEACON, "Speed" wasn't the issue. Having the little beastie go BANG every time was the prime directive. My Sundial is a really nicely patina'd antique bronze one. Much lighter than stone
Cemetery
possible head spacing issue with new barrel? What about the firing pin spring?
DeaconKC
The primers showed light strikes on them. And with the second strike from the rifle, it was evident the second strike hit harder.
