Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770
There is a commercial for diapers that shows a baby wearing glasses. The kid can't be much more than a year old, still in diapers. But the kid is wearing glasses. How does that happen? The kid can't tell anybody that his vision is bad. He certainly can't read an eye chart. And how would he be able to tell when the glasses made him see better? Anybody had experience with this? Rye Miles #13621
I’ve seen videos of little children given glasses and they can see for the first time. They look authentic and it’s a tear jerker for sure. I don’t know how they know but it seems legitimate.
J-BAR #18287
The optometrist/ophthalmologist can get a pretty darn good set of corrective lenses prescribed by examining the eye and determining how many diopters brings the retina into focus. Baby's comments not needed. Early intervention saves a lot of kids's vision.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
The eye docs can tell by taking a bunch of measurements during an exam when they suspect a child isn’t seeing well. Had a friend whose disabled daughter got glasses before she was two. J-bar beat me to it!

Pat Riot
@J-BAR #18287is correct. I had terrible vision as a child. I ran into things. I couldn’t see things people pointed out to me. My parents and relatives just thought I was odd. Then I started first grade. The teacher knew right away I needed glasses. Over time through the use of very strong magnification lenses my vision was partially corrected. I often wonder if the technology was available when I was a year old if I would have had a better chance at normal or close to normal vision. Texas Joker
My cousin got glasses about 5 yr old. Knew trees were green but couldn't see the leaves on em. Once she got glasses she could see detail. Lions club bought my first pair of glasses. Mom was strapped and at wits end. When I go to the eye doc they have a computer based machine with a picture in it that starts out of focus and pulls to focus and spits out a recept tape with a very close proximity to my script. Smuteye John SASS#24774
Glasses are also used to correct things like wandering eye, too. Grew up with a girl that had glasses for that and it worked pretty good. The eye didn't line up perfectly with the other but she wasn't pulling a Jack Elam any more either. Subdeacon Joe
A quick search found these. Non-technical, but informative:https://aapos.org/glossary/glasses-for-children http://www.eyedolatryblog.com/2016/08/prescribing-glasses-for-kids.html
