Well, that’s kind of obvious… 

I was just trying to imagine a scenario where a large 5-7 inch projectile would come from behind to punch a hole in your propeller like that. Weird…and damned lucky!

That would be scary enough if that was a multi-engine bomber, and whatever that was came in over the wing to hit the prop.

 

But that's a P-47. It came in over the cockpit.

Slim, that's a different guy. 

 

Here's a different photo of the guy Alpo pisted

 

Think how cloe to the fuselage that shell had to come without hitting it.  And,  because of the lines of the Jug it had to have passed along side and from behind.
