I think this first one is a raven rather than a crow.

Crows and Ravens are smart birds. Pretty sure the bird in the gif I posted was a Magpie.
They are also smart. I would love to have a pet crow, but they are now Federally protected under the migratory bird treat act. Technically you cannot have them as pets unless there are extenuating circumstances. They can be killed for damaging crops, but are generally a protected species.

Well, that’s enough from me. Carry on!

So I can shoot it for eating my food crop , but I can't keep it as a pet or shoot it and eat it? Even though I can shoot it and eat my crop that it was trying to eat?

Yes… I think.
Supposedly if you find a young abandoned crow you could take it in as a pet. But I think you have to register it with the state DNR or DFG. I am not real sure about the registration part.

Dam' I never knew you had to register birds - is caliber or mag capacity involved?

... Folks around here don't do a lot of that registration stuff. They never have, and likely never will. And no shortage of crows here either.

I don't have one as a pet, not sure how they taste either having never eaten one.

Reminds me of Fry's Electronics in Silicon Valley. Almost as many people watching employees for stealing as watching customers for stealing.

Every cow I have ever heard of was vegetarian. So truth in advertising?

Beef should be in quotes or maybe spelled beeph (yes, I have seen that).

I've had some vegetarian/vegan jerkys,  some were good,  some weren't.  But then,  I've bought  some beef jerky that was pretty  bad,  too.

Biggest difference is the texture.  Make pemiccan with the toughness of jerky.

College dorm cooking.

Grilled cheese with a steam iron, dorm phone in the corridor!  Remember the aluminum plug in coil to heat a cup or water?  And typewriters late into the night for term papers, Korectype or Coreasable bond - even Otto has forgot those.  Could the current crop have survived back then?

In my home town there was a paint store that had a Mina Bird in a cage on the counter. This bird knew three human sounds,

When anyone came into the store the Mina would  squawk “Goodbye”.

When you left he would squawk “Hello”. If you held the door open long enough he would let out this tremendous Wolf Whistle. One of my teenage pleasures would be to hold the door open when a woman passed the store and have the Mina Bird whistle. It was hilarious at the time. 😆
