And I'm up near the cage looking at the baboon, and he reached through the bars and snatched my glasses off. And apparently proceeded to chew on them. Without my glasses I could not see what he was doing, but when we got them back they were full of tooth marks. Daddy went to complain, and three employees came to get my glasses back. One had a push broom. One had a high pressure garden hose. And the other one picked them up after the baboon dropped them. But they used the broom and the water to keep themHIM off of them. And then they gave me grief because "there's a sign there that says he steals stuff and not to get close!!" Except there wasn't. On the other side of the cage there was such a sign, but not from the direction we came. Daddy was not pleased. Daddy was not pleased that my glasses were destroyed, and Daddy was not pleased that these people who don't even know us are yelling at his child. Every time I see a sign on a monkey cage I remember this episode. Years later I was at another zoo and there was a sign on the monkey cage. "You do not need to come and get an employee. The monkey is not hurt. Like all primates, she has a bloody discharge once a month." And the monkey in the cage was menstrating, and there was blood all down her legs. Alpo Posted May 27 Share Posted May 27 I was at a zoo at Homosassa Springs. They had a hippopotamus. He was famous, a celebrity. TV star. He had played the baby hippo in the television show Daktari. And everybody crowded up around his cage to see him. I was maybe 50, 60 feet away, because I had a camcorder and I was videotaping our zoo experience. You know how a hippopotamus marks his territory? He spins his tail like a propeller, and when he's got it going pretty good he unpluggs the diarrhea factory and flings poop all over everywhere. Pat Riot Posted May 27 Author Share Posted May 27 I saw a Rhino at the Pittsburgh shoot pee a good 35-40 feet. It hit a barricade but the Rhino pee still splashed and hit people behind the barricade.
