Springfield Slim SASS #24733
I would have taken the barrel off first, no matter what I decided to use.
Alpo
"What is she doing?" it says. Simple. She's committing a federal felony and broadcasting it to the world. Hopefully she's now doing 10 years in Leavenworth trying to figure out how to pay the $250,000 fine.

I'd leave the barrel attached, pull the two pins to remove the upper. Curiosity would win, dictating that it be tested as a single shot (pistol lower of course). Horace Patootie, SASS #35798
First, you get approval and tax stamp through ATF-NFA. Then you cut the barrel. I did mine with a hack saw, but only because I was sending it to Gemtech for them to finish and thread to their suppressor. At 7 inch barrel length, it works fine, but this one is blowback operated, not gas operated ( 45 ACP ) Horace
LawMan Mark, SASS #57095L
Political stunt from 2018. Karen Mallard of Virginia. Never prosecuted, as she should have been.
Alpo
I've heard of two or three people doing that. "AR-15s are evil! They must be destroyed!!!" So they buy an AR-15 and have themselves filmed as they're cutting it up. And the first thing they do is cut the barrel off, which immediately became a federal felony, but they are never charged because "it's a political statement".
