Alpo
Pictures I've seen of a landing area on a flat roof have always been a circle with a H in it. Is that the way they ALL are? Like an international symbol? If so, anybody know how long they've looked like that? I'm watching Dirty Harry, and the helicopter landed him on the roof next to a large white Maltese cross. Not a circle with an H. I suppose it could be X MARKS THE SPOT.
Subdeacon Joe
There is a good chance that a lot of things have changed in the half century since that film was released. I wasn't able to find that it's an international convention, but all the images of helipads I found online show an H within a circle or octagon. Some references said that the legs of the H are aligned with the preferred landing direction, but wind conditions might necessitate a different direction. If there is a number it indicates a weight limit, e.g. 8 is 8,000 pounds, 4 is 4,000 pounds and so on.
Alpo
That's funky. They have a herd of buffalo in downtown San Francisco, held securely behind a 4-foot chain link fence.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
It’s possible that mark was just a temporary one for this movie. The filmmakers might have just needed an available rooftop for the shot, as opposed to renting a helipad/port.
