In search of Red Dot recipes for light Lee bullets

Recommended Posts

I came into possession of two 6-cavity molds for casting food for my .357 Magnum Ruger NMVs and Browning B-92:

1.  105 gr truncated cone flat point (Lee 358-105-SWC mold)

2.  95 gr round nose flat point (Lee TL356-95-RF mold)

Does anyone have tried-'n-true Red Dot recipes for these, both for for revolver and lever gun?

Thanks, in advance.

3 to 4 gr would be a range to try. I shoot 3 gr in a 38 spl 125 gr bullet, very mild.

I load 3.2gr of Red Dot under 130 gr bullets in 357Mag cases, and it is indeed mild.  But these are much lighter bullets and I'm concerned about exceeding max-SASS bullet velocities.

I'm running 3.4gr Red Dot under a 105 gr TCFP with a pair of Ruger Vaqueros.  Avg velocity is approx 760fps.   For my rifles, I like a faster round, I use 4.0 gr with a 125gr bullet  Avg. velocity is approx 900fps.   Neither exceeds SASS velocity parameters.

The .356-95 mold is a 9mm mold. May be too small in diameter to work well in your .357 guns.

So, my 3.2 gr of Red Dot will clearly work just fine under the 105 gr TCFP bullet in both my NMVs and the rifle without any real worry at all about violating SASS velocity limits.

I am currently running 3.2 grains of Red Dot behind a 105 grain coated bullet this load has not appeared to be weather sensitive as I have shot in COLD and HOT and pouring rain and even a little snow :-)

Perfect, Yohan -- thank you very much.
