Painted Mohawk SASS 77785 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Funny story but could've ended different !! Loading up real BP in 44-40's...usually do in batches of 50...when done I check them through pistol & rifle...well dang I lost 2, looked everywhere in the loading shed..even had the finder of everything come have a look but alas the Universe had just up & took em'. That afternoon I did a bit of lawn cutting on my Toro rider mower...next day the finder of everything while hanging out the washing beckons me over & says 'guess what I found...well there was a bent up loaded 44-40 with a chunk of brass taken out of the rim so ever close to the primer & the bullet had been ripped out of the case...if that had gone 'BANG with me on top I reckon I would've s**t meself !!! How it came to be outside still has me puzzled ...now I'm wondering where the other one is...... Scroll down for pic..
Pat Riot Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 That’s nature’s way of taking a boring mundane task and making it exciting.
Eyesa Horg Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Might want to walk the area with a metal detector!
Charlie Harley, #14153 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Wait till she vacuums a dropped primer and it goes bang in the dust bag.

Michigan Slim Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 While working at the range several years ago I saw a lady hit a shotshell with the mower. It did a fine job cleaning under the deck!
Painted Mohawk SASS 77785 Posted March 28, 2023 Author Posted March 28, 2023 Pic of the said bullet........
Ranger Dan Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Sad loss of a 44-40 case. Were you able to salvage the primer?
Goody, SASS #26190 Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Perhaps it was caught up in your pant cuff? Then when you left loading shed it dropped out?

Was it one of you that years ago a primer going off pretty much destroyed a plastic encased vacuum cleaner? I recall a post on the Wire about it.

DeaconKC Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 A primer going off inside a Shopvac will wake you right up too!

Pat Riot Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 It was something I read in the Wire probably in 2005. A guy dropped some large pistol primers in a carpeted room. He thought he had gotten them all. Later his wife was vacuuming with a new vacuum cleaner and BAM! the section surrounding the beater bar brush broke apart. Scared the hell out of his wife. Once they figured out what happened the missus was not amused at all.
