During World War II, USAAF Col. Paul Tibbetts was frustrated with his pilots complaining about how hard it was to fly the new B-29 bomber. He arranged for two women WASP pilots to be trained on the big plane and had them fly it around the country just to shame the men. It worked.

One of my best friends in High School's Father was the tail gunner on Paul Tibbett's B-17 Red Gremlin over Europe. He was wounded and missed the last few missions with the rest of his crew, so when they went home, they were assigned to the B29 program together while my buddy's Dad finished up his tour over Europe.
