Sudden Death Syndrome

Unfortunately, American political dissent and "free speech" appear to be starting down the censorship and persecution road too.

You don't appreciate what you have until it's gone!

This might open up an unwelcomed can of worms, and because I am not a historian, I gotta ask this

question to those who might know:

Is what Putin is doing to the Ukranian similar to what Lincoln did to the South when it succeeded?

Insightful question.  Worth pondering.

Ukraine and Belarus are charter members of the UN along with USSR. While it was a member of the Soviet Union, it was a separate country, as were East Germany, Poland, and many of the other Warsaw Pact nations. Thus when the USSR broke up, Ukraine was not part of Russia.

With that as my reason I would say no, this is different from the war of southern secession.

Putin started the war because he wants to be the big cheese.

To continue that topic. Russia today is a federation, that is a constitutionally joined bunch of political entities, some states (republics) some cities, some whatevers. There are special items in the constitution for many of the republics. They are not equal.

Some of the “Stans” are republics within Russia, some are sovereign republics. Putin liked to keep a tight reign on the sovereign republics’ leaders but they have seen how weak Russia is and are pushing back, they at least don’t run to the phone when the country code is 7.  Many of the republics that are in Russian Federation, have given thought to separation, like Chechnya.

most of the republics, both the members of RF and the satellite countries (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, etc.) are 90-95% Muslim. But the governments were set up by Stalin and are the remaining 5-10% that is Russian.  Those five countries are sandwiched next to Russia. A few of the “Stan” republics that are part of RF are taking a wait and see attitude, perhaps they to will seek to break away from mother Russia.

The war of Northern aggression!  Federal arrest of Maryland congress so they couldn’t vote to secede.

Former Clinton White House and international development official Dana Hyde died last week after the private business jet she was flying in encountered severe turbulence in New England, according to Connecticut police officials. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) opened an investigation into the incident on Monday.

The 55-year-old was traveling with her husband and one of her sons but was the only person aboard the plane, to be injured and die, including the two flight crew members. The plane is owned by broadband consulting firm Conexon.

The mysterious death of an aide to President Bill Clinton with ties to Jeffrey Epstein has been officially ruled a suicide — despite there being no sign of a weapon near the body.

Mark Middleton, 59, who served in the Clinton White House in the 1990s, was found dead on Heifer Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas, on May 2, 2022,

Nosir! What Putin is doing is what Hitler did when he tried to claim that ethnic Germans were being persecuted in places like (then) Chechoslovakia, Poland and adjacent countries, especially in the Sudetanland. When British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin appeased Hitler to obtain "Peace in our time," it set off the opportunity for Hitler to pursue his objectives, and started WWII. Had Britain and France actively opposed the concession to Hitler, the German general staff was prepared to remove him as chancellor.

I know that some potential U.S. presidential candidates have made statements that this is "merely a territorial dispute" between Russia and Ukraine, but they are very wrong! The naked aggression into the Ukraine by Russia, is just that!  The problem has been that NATO's and especially our aid to Ukraine to defend itself have been too little and too late. If Putin is allowed to conquer Ukraine, he will not stop there, but will go after former Soviet/Warsaw Pact countries such as Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, but also possibly Polland and others. That would trigger Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which would result in WWIII!

Incidentally, just be glad that Ukraine got rid of all of its SS-9 ICBM's when the Soviet Union broke up! There is one left, however! But, sans the warhead, it is in the Smithsonian Institute in DC (or maybe at Udvar-Hazy near Dulles). :o:rolleyes:

Indeed, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was made up of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and a bunch of others.  However, it was RUSSIA and a bunch of others. Even though the USSR seemed to like having Georgians at the helm it was Russian dominated. That the UkrSSR and BrSSR were charter members of the UN was political maneuvering to de facto give the Russian dominated USSR three votes in the UN.

Russia has always, or at least back to the time when St. Vladimir was baptized, maintained that Ukraine is part of Russia.

Yes sir that's a fact. This World would be a lot better off if the powers to be would have listened to George Patton. He was a great Military leader. One of my favorite qoutes of his is:

"Politicians are the lowest form of human life, and Democrats are the lowest form of politician! "

Yep, Hitler’s invocation of the Vvolk and the Welt Politik.

Edit: Because of their Proto-Slavic Kievan-Rus ties to Ukraine, Putin is attempting a ‘greater Fatherland’ effort just like the aforementioned Austrian.
