Utah Bob #35998 Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 Well the wind dropped down to about 5mph so I came out to the Fortress, turned on the heater and settled in all comfy with a stick and coffee. Of course it was only a lull and after about 10 minutes it’s roaring again. A bit noisy in here. The tie downs are holding up well, but if I end up in a cornfield in Nebraska at least I had a nice Oliva V. Feeling a bit like the Apollo 13 crew in the command module when they were re-entering the atmosphere and weren’t sure if the buggy would stay together. If I do launch I hope they don’t shoot me down. Maybe I should paint a flag on the door.

Riley the armpit of the World. I was stationed there from June 1971 to Dec 7th 1971. I, my wife & <1 yr old daughter lived in Manhattan. We bought a Honda Trail 70 for her to putt around town with Baby Buda in a backpack carrier. We'd occasionally spend a date night in Agiville. Kind of a mini version of the entertainment around UC Berkeley we were familiar with. The only drawback of service at Ft. Riley was having Sargent of the Guard duty since there was only two E5's in HQ battery. P.S. The 1st division was the designated rapid deployment force for Germany; so, I participated in the 1971 Reforger exercise which was a good experience. My mistake was volunteering to fly back to Ft. Riley a week earlier than the rest of HQ battery. I wanted to be with my family. Unfortunately only two NCO's were on the flight. This meant that I was CQ every other 24 hrs for a week until the rest of HQ battery returned.
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 well I got sent to RIley , in late 82 , after being in Germany for 2 years , the outfit I was sent to , would not make good cub scouts I did 2 Reforgers , in country , should have stayed in Germany , or went to Korea reckon , I am a field trooper CB
