California Law Enforcement Has Gone Insane

Can LAPD Chief Michel Moore finally get serious about crime in Los Angeles?

People move to Los Angeles from all over the world for the weather, glitz, glamour and a Hollywood lifestyle that only the City of Angels can offer.

However, our crime problem is now so out of control that we are now being told to leave our watches, expensive cars and wallets at home in order to protect ourselves from emboldened criminals.

We have essentially collectively thrown in the towel on trying to do something to catch and punish the criminals and instead just resorted to hiding everything that they might want to steal from us.

On March 24 of last year, LAPD Chief Michel Moore told Angelenos to leave their flashy jewelry and cars at home.

You missed the point too. You're asking for revenge, not justice.

After due process, and appropriately applied, justice may very well look a lot like revenge.

Revenge "the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands."

It seems to me that incarceration could be described as 'harm' and the death penalty certainly could.  I have no issue with either of those and neither does the Supreme Court, which is tasked with interpreting our laws and their constitutionality.

I guess it depends upon whether you view the purpose of criminal punishment as being deterrence, retribution or incapacitation.  I tend to think all three apply to some degree.  The death penalty, appropriately applied serves all three purposes. Dead people don't reoffend. An eye for an eye is certainly a form of retribution, and absent the seemingly infinite period from conviction to execution the death penalty could certainly serve as a form of deterrence.

Taken to an extreme, concern about the misapplication of the law can lead to exactly what Dave is describing above.  Reasonable people can disagree on how far in either direction we should go.

Colorado increased penalties for wheelies to a felony many years back when freeway motorcycle stunt riding was a thing.  Seems a bit excessive, but was probably effective.

One way to increase the number of people prohibited from possessing ammo & metallic cartridge firearms.

Because of the SOROS LA county DA there is no incentive for LA County police officers & deputy sheriffs to fight mostly property crimes.  If these criminals get caught they will only get "Restorative Justice".

Here's an idea: Make it illegal to own these things. Look how well it's working in Chicago.

Oh wait, it's ALREADY pretty much illegal in L.A., and it IS working as well there as it is in Chicago.
