Dusty Morningwood
SOLD This "El Tigre" rifle chambered in .44-40 is an almost exact copy of the Model 92 Winchester made in Eibar, Spain for civilian and garda use. These were also used during the Spanish Civil War. This particular one has significant factory blue fading at its edges with excellent screws. Finish fading on top of barrel and bottom of receiver. Original factory sights. The factory wood with original finish has some minor scratches and small dings. Perfect inletting. Front band has a sling swivel as does the buttstock. Markings crisp on side of frame with "Tigre" trademark and tang address where "Winchester Model 1892" would normally be. Silky smooth action and very clean. Top of barrel with "Garate, Antitua Y Cia Eibar, Espana" (arms manufacturer between 1915 and 1938) and "Cal 44 L" (.44 Largo or .44-40) . This one marked "1924". Original steel buttplate (without deluxe cleaning rod trap) is correct. Bright bore in a 20" barrel (actually 19.5") with correct shallow rifling and some very minor scattered pits. Ships to FFL or C&R. $925 + Shipping.
Warden Callaway
I've always watched for one but I need to quit buying. Some 10 years ago I was doing business with a retired gunsmith and gun collector. In conversation, he had one but his price was crazy high. I never looked at it so I don't know why he thought it was worth his asking price. I understand a lot were used in old westerns because they were cheaper than Winchester. I watch for front sight ahead of band or behind it.

cowrustler
These are very solid rifles. When I was a kid, at the height of the tv and movie cowboy era, I begged my dad to buy one of these out of the back of outdoor magazines. Can't remember the exact price for sure but $29.95 or so sounds right. I've had several and regret selling the last one I had. Good quality carbines, a little heavier than Winchesters. Mine all had 22" barrels - Dusty, did you measure or just guess?
