Anothe van was stopped about a mile away but it has been cleared

When the van was stopped, officers heard a single gunshot. Then SWAT deployed and found the body/

The sheriff has said the gun that was taken from the suspect at the incident after the mass shooting was not a rifle but a pistol. Probably an AR style pistol.

If I was the real shooter, with a plan, I would leave a suspect in the van to take the blame for it.  I might even doctor up a Facebook page for him expressing his dislike for whoever he shot.  Leave a manifesto in his shirt pocket or something.

Perfect for a TV movie. In real life they don’t make master plans like that. Usually due to their chaotic mental state.

Gavin hoped it was an AR pistol!  He is unhappy that it was a handgun with a magwell in the grip.  At least the gun had a mag the held way more than 10 rounds.  What I read it sounded like the magazine was like the 32 round Glock magazine.  I could be wrong and it is a very high capacity drum type.

P.S.  The shooter was an 72 year old Asian with a Vietnamese last name "Tran".  Maybe this was PTSD induced event.

Our local NBC news said it was an "automatic machine pistol" :(

Any killing of innocents is abhorrent, but I'm afraid this one will fade from the news cycle pretty quickly..

I wasn’t going to say this, but…

They don’t have his motive yet. Perhaps this was a man that fled Communism only to find himself right back in it’s grasp in the country where he sought freedom.

A total speculation on my part. A supposition. I have no basis in fact. Just my experience there and from discussions I had with coworkers that emigrated here from Vietnam.

You may be on to something there, if the venue was in some way glorifying the CPC.

I say that because of the statements of close friends and neighbours; one from China, (still with family there. Maybe. They were in Wuhan) and another neighbour from Vietnam and some of my BILs in-laws.

It’s a Chinese/Taiwanese neighborhood. I doubt there’;s much communist proselytizing going on. He was a regular at the place apparently.

And I will hotly disagree with anyone who I thinks that this is now a communist country.

Spend a couple of months in California then get back to me.

Didn't say it was Bob, but here in Canada, there are those who think Socialism/Communism is a wonderful idea.

They just don't try selling it to those here who escaped from it.

This lunar new year is a Chinese celebration, not all Asian groups agree with each other. Maybe this nutcase had a problem with this celebration? Just speculating here.

VN had/has a lot of ethnic Chinese.   Religions are: none, Buddhism, Christianity,  Caodhaism, etc.   The Republic of South Vietnam officially celebrated Chinese New Year.  That is why the Tet Offensive in 1968 was such a shock to US & SVN.  The surprise attacks on the Lunar New Year were initially successful because of the tradition before & after 1968 was that combatants stood down.

I’m thinking more on the lines of the Japanese are generally not fond of the Chinese, the South Koreans are not fond of them either and they certainly don’t care for North Koreans. This of course is not for all people but this could be the source of anger from this guy. Again I’m just speculating and I don’t know the ethnicity of the shooter other than he’s Asian. That’s a pretty broad definition of what he is. Did I miss something here?

I'll venture to say that he probably had a beef against the dance studio(s). Seems to me that the same basic thing has happened around here some time back. The killer thought that the dance studio has "stolen" his money and refused to give it back. Truth was that he had paid for dance lessons, received dance lessons and (evidently) he sucked at dancing. He believed that he had be cheated so he took it out on whomever happened to be in the studio.

Coming out he was looking for his ex wife.  72 years old.  Also tried to shoot up another studio and was stopped.

I think you’re both on the right track here. Fox News said there might be some love connection involved.

"They're rioting in Africa (whistling),

They'r starving in Spain (whistling),

There's hurricane in Florida (more whistling)

And Texas needs rain!"  The Kingston Trio years ago.

"But we can be thankful, thankful and proud,

For man's been endowed with a mushroom shaped cloud!

And we can be certain that some lucky day,

Someone will set the spark off,

And we will all be blown away!" (boing!)

BTW. Viet Nam is trying to buy military items from the U.S., because they are afraid of the Chinese! And Japan, likewise!
