Thanks,

Same here. I'm about 1/2 way through. Ambrose write in a great, plain, straightforward style that is easy to read. Not like reading a novel. Also try Nothing Like It In The World, his book about construction of the transcontinental railroad.

Ambrose Is good but By far the best book I have read is

George Drouillard: Hunter and Interpreter for Lewis and Clark and Fur Trader, 1807-1810

A bit different but an excellent read is the historically accurate novel, Long Knife, by James Alexander Thom.

Originally published in 1979, the book is an accounting of George Rogers Clark's life; George had a life that was perhaps even more fascinating than his better-known younger brother, William, partner of Meriwether Lewis.

Long Knife at Amazon
