Guns in the movies.

Watching Hitchcock’s 1935 film The 39 Steps and about 45 minutes, in Professor Jordan the enemy agent in Scotland, tries to convince Mr. Hannay to kill himself.

”What if I left you alone with this revolver?”, he asks.

Yeah.

That's what happened in Thunderball.

The assassin comes into Bond's room and fires six times with his silenced pistol at the lump on the bed. And from out of the shadows in the corner of the room Jimmy says, "That's a Smith & Wesson. You've had your six", and then he shoots the assassin with his silenced Walther.

Except that in the movie he didn't have a Smith & Wesson. He had a 1911 Colt. Which held at the time, depending on whether you topped it off or not, either seven or eight shots.

When they wrote the script, they copied that line straight out of the book. Where the assassin had a silenced Smith & Wesson six shot revolver. When they made the movie they apparently did not have a silenced revolver in props.

Go to Google Images and keyword "1895 Nagant with silencer", and there are dozens of pictures and articles about this unique revolver and its ammo.

agreed that nagant [mine is gone now] might actually work well with a silencer but .......

dont you think that even back then they looked on the silencer as menacing and evil ? it was hollywood after all and even back then the agenda was in motion ,

Is there actually such a thing as a silenced revolver? :P

Yes, the 1895 Nagant has a unique design that moves the cylinder forward when fired, along with a particular type of cartridge, sealing the gap between the cylinder and chamber. This traps the escaping gasses, making it supressible. In movies however they will put a suppressor on virtually any revolver. Hollywood. ;)
