Subdeacon Joe Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Happy Birthday to John Philip Sousa! This legendary composer was born #OTD in 1854 in Washington, D.C. The son of a Marine bandsman, Sousa became the director of the Marine Band in 1880, at the age of 25. As bandmaster under five presidents, he turned the band into a nationally recognized hallmark and launched a career that made him the country's most famous bandleader. His many compositions include “Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Semper Fidelis,” which earned him the title "The March King." Under Sousa’s directorship, the band made its first concert tour, premiered Sousa’s famous marches, and produced some of the first phonograph recordings ever made. #USMC #USMCMuseum #HappyBirthday #Sousa #MarineBand
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 How does one appreciate a "Happy Birthday" from the wrong side of the Daisies??
Pat Riot Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 I had a collection of CDs of Sousa’s music. Somehow that collection vanished during one of my moves. Very aggravating. I love Sousa’s music.
