WTB 1872 Open Top Ivory look grips

Army or navy?  Most new grips for anything other than Ruger will need a little or a lot of fitting, though sometimes you get lucky.  One-piece (no screw) grips will require gluing the spacer with the grip panels aligned in place.  It can be a little tedious but just requires going slow and following directions.

http://www.gripmaker.com has grips with various designs molded in.  Reasonable prices although I've never used them and don't know how much fitting may be involved.

I have three sets from Arizonacustomgrips on my conversions . They only sell on ebay.  Mine are Navy and each fit closely enough that I did not feel any need to do any fitting.  They made the first set super thin at my request, and the other two are just "thin" about like 1st gen Colts.  Note that Uberti changed the size of their Navy grip frames in '09.  They are aware of this and if your gun is older then you need to let them know.  They are a little pricier than gripmaker.

Then there is Buffalo Brothers.  Priced reasonably, several designs including aged/cracked (which I don't care for, but that's me) and checkered.  Some fitting required.

There's also some natural "ivory look" options, like certain types of wood and giraffe bone, stuff like that.  Those will cost more and usually not DIY.

Buffalo Brothers

Boone Trading by Altamont

Both make nice grips, spacers from both leave something to be desired.

Boone Trading grip material is more dense than Buffalo Brothers.

I haven’t been able to find anyone that uses any of the stuff that has the simulated shreger lines so I buy the avorin blanks and make my own.  If someone knows of a company that does have true synthetic ivory grips please post because I’m in the market too.  But it needs the grain.

someone suggested Tru-Ivory but it looks like they are out of business

I'm pretty sure they are out of business as well, although their website has remained up for years.  No response from the email listed, although I haven't tried calling the number.
