Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
As the season wanes, an historic verse from the past... from the perspective of a New York Giants fan watching the Chicago Cubs infield of shortstop Joe Tinker, second baseman Johnny Evers, and first baseman Frank Chance complete a double play. These three players helped the Cubs win four National League championships and two World Series from 1906 to 1910. These are the saddest of possible words:"Tinker to Evers to Chance."Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,Tinker and Evers and Chance.Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,Making a Giant hit into a double –Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:"Tinker to Evers to Chance." Subdeacon Joe
I was thinking about that yesterday, at least the recurring names, "Tinkers to Evers to Chance." They must have been pure joy to watch.
Blackwater 53393
Tinker and Evers feuded in 1905, even had a fistfight on the field. They didn’t speak to each other until 1937. They remained teammates until 1912 when Evers was traded to the Braves.

Henry T Harrison
As a kid I grew up watching Dick Groat to Bill Mazeroski to Dick Stuart. Mazeroski was so fast with the turnaround at second base that he was known as no touch Maz. What a great trio
