Primers are coming back, with a small twist.

I am a member of this board and I was happy to see that primers were showing up in local gun shops. Some are starting to sell them by the 500 instead. But, one person did say that his local gun shop has CCIs in stock at $54 per brick. Things are improving!

It’s called “shrinkflation”.  The amount shrinks, but the price was as it was before.

I can remember when a 10 cent Coke went from 12 oz to 10 oz. Then went to 15 cents.

I don't remember a 12 oz coke.  But I remember the small 6 oz bottled Coke for 5 cents.  Later the same size bottle became 8 oz (thinner glass) but the price was way higher by then.

I guess that depends on the primer. I was told that many long-range shooters prefer the BR-2 primers, so I bought a brick back when they were still normal. They go boom when I pull the trigger. Remington and Winchester also have a poor reputation on some forums, yet they can't quantify why.

I like CCI’s. :)

If my guns run them my guns are running right. ;)

Also, seat them hard >.005” below flush and they’ll fire every time. Unless the hammer / main spring is weak.

There’s a shop near me that has 1000 ea. bricks of primers for $120. They have the same stock that they had 2 months ago. I asked if they considered lowering the price. I was told “The price will stay until they’re sold.”

I laughed and walked out.

Pepsi Cola hits the spot

12 whole ounces that's a lot

Twice as much for a nickel too

Pepsi Cola's the one for you.

Coca Cola went to town

Pepsi Cola shot him down

Dr.  Pepper fixed him up

When into town walked 7Up,

But 7Up had caught the flu

And passed it on to Mountain Dew

Then everyone gave out a cheer

And held on high their chilled root beer.

I know some folks who had some light strikes in their rifles but they are really fast with very light springs.  My guns are all tuned but set off the CCI small pistol primers fine.  I did screw my '73 strain screw in 1/4 turn for some extra confidence.  I shot 1K of them with no problem and have 4K left but set them aside when I got more Federals.

I just bought 5,000 Federal Small Pistol for $464.15 shipped, which seemed decent for today.  I would have bought 15,000, but 5,000 was all they had.

Yes, very decent for today, if that included shipping, hazmat and tax.

I keep about 500 CCI around for “proof testing”.
If I do anything that affects hammer speed or striking force on my guns I will take them to the range and run 30-40 rounds. If those go bang I use my federals in matches and no need to worry about primers not going off.

That brings up a good point.  With one exception, those colas and stuff are all Johnny come lately types in the soda pop department.

Dr. Pepper is quite venerable, getting its start in 1885.
Moxie dates back 1884.
Hire's Root Beer, the original root beer that is sadly hard to find goes all the way back to 1876.

And the Granddaddy of them all is Vernors Ginger Ale which harkens from 1866!

So which one should we consider to be the SASS Official Soda?   I like 'em all, but being from New England, I of course have a soft spot for Moxie.

Moxie is...   Moxie.   It is what it is.   It is unique and unlike anything else in all the world.   And other than perhaps at some specialty shops and one bottler Pennsylvania, you can't get it outside of New England.

10 cents, I remember when Cokes were 6oz and went from 5 cents to 6 cents, size didn't go down though.

A guy with whom I once worked stopped smoking when cigarettes reached $1 a pack. What are they now? Over $11 a pack in some areas? :o

Primers... that's the advantage of shooting guns that aren't extra superduper slicked up. My Rugers set off anything. ;)

CCIs are fine with me. Now, where's the Trailboss? :D

We are unlikely to find $150 sleeves (5K) of primers in the future. I bought when I could at around $100/1K and was glad to get them. I recently bought 4K Federal SPP for $59/1K. I should have bought 8K, but didn't want to take them all.

That's not bad these days.  I didn't buy any but it let me put 10K in the cart.
