Hunting Is History

"Henry "Sam" Colvin moved from SW Pennsylvania in the 1850s crossed the great plains and settled in Oregon. Sam's occupation was "Hunter" and in 1857 he contracted with the local sawmill to provide 4 hind quarters of elk per week to be supplied to the camp cook. Sam bought 12 acres in Curry County, Oregon for $120 in 1865 ( $120 in 1865 is worth $2200 today). This picture was taken around 1910 when Sam was about 80 years old.
