WOT (Wide Open Throttle) Songs

Recommended Posts

In the "Greatest song ever recorded" thread, @Creeker, SASS #43022 mentioned "WOT songs" Those where "the volume knob and the speedometer seemed to be linked together." So as not to hijack that thread, I decided to start a new thread. I actually could with a couple of his ideas from that post, so I might start more, who knows?

Again, personal opinion, completely subjective. No need to limit it to one, but don't get carried away. Try to keep it to five-ten? Give yourself five bonus points for every ten miles per hour over the speed limit a particular song that gets listed has made you go. Ten bonus points if you were pulled over by law enforcement. (No, you don't need to tell anyone if you so choose)

Radar Love, by Golden Earring

Highway Star, by Deep Purple

YYZ, Rush

The Phoenix,  Fall Out Boy

Sabotage, The Beastie Boys

Aces High, Iron Maiden

Among the above, I will say I've been very fortunate to never have been pulled over. Most of them are responsible for at least ten bonus points. No comment on Highway Star while driving a certain red 1984 Rx-7 GSL-SE with a friend on a long fairly straight stretch of country road.

Check out “Hot ‘Lanta”, an instrumental by the Allman Brothers Band.  Just be sure that you are parked the first time you play it in the vehicle!!  It ain’t meant for downtown traffic by any stretch of the imagination!!

GM at one time, I don't know if they still do, had radios that would turn up the volume automatically for every 10mph. Friend of mine was working at a chevy dealer, car came in cruse control wouldn't work. Ran all the tests every thing perfect, take it out for a test ride , no cruse. Rinse repeat, finally they call  chevy " oh ya we are having problems with the radios, replace the radio." My buddy was glad it was fixed under warranty, said he can't wait till he has to tell somebody they need a new radio to fix their cruse.

Ol’ Sky Dog had so much music in his head that I wouldn’t even venture a guess on that subject!!

At one time, a friend of mine owned the gold top Les Paul that Duane played before going to the red SG.  It was the one he used on “The Layla Project” and on the Filmore and Idlewild South albums.

“They Call Me The Breeze” is a JJ Cale song.  It’ll work.

“Lunatic Fringe” by Red Rider works pretty well too.

So does “Runnin’ With The Devil” by Van Halen!

If ya’s wanna go back a ways, the theme to the TV show “Route 66” really works as well!

I love the original JJ Cale version, it just isn't the "WOT" type song that Doc mentions. I actually like the JJ Cale version better that the Skynyrd version but Cale's version is more of a laid back version.

JJ Cale also is the original musician for Crazy Mama, Cocaine, After Midnight and many others. I prefer his originals other than the Clapton and other remakes.

Funny! I was thinking that as I read your post.

And then I wasn't :D, got back though.

Do like that 392 w/Manual. And I've heard you get more mileage from a cheap set of speakers.

I have been known to twist the volume knob up and (maybe slightly, a teensy tiny bit) push the throttle pedal down...

Ok, maybe a little bit more than a teensy bit; within 6 months of getting my drivers license - I was only one point short of losing it.

Chevy Nova, Mickey Thompson street slicks, slapper bars, Pioneer radio and a rear window deck full of Kraco speakers.

Chris LeDoux...Life is a Highway

The Tractors...Boogie Woogie Choo Choo  Train

Prince...Lets go crazy

Men at Work...Land Down Under

Dexys Midnight Runners...C'mon Eileen

And SO MANY more - windows down doing circuits in Marshall Michigan.  From the fountain to the Shell station and back around - honking at our friends, yelling like idiots at the girls and then looking straight ahead; hands at 10 and 2 with the volume at zero when an officer would find himself next to you.

It starts a little slow and introspective, but Blackfoot’s “Highway Song” really roars out the back door and “Train Train” is tri nitro toluene right outa’ the box with the fuse already lit!

”Take The Highway” from Marshall Tucker is the same stuff!

I have a play list in my Apple Music account that I listen to on my motorcycle via Bluetooth. I do have to be careful of my throtttle. ;)

Not trying to be a thread hog but it’s hard to just pick 1 or a few.

Dang Pat

If I had a play list, it would look just like that!. Everyone of them is a cruisin' song. I can't tell you how many times my friends and I went long cruisin' with Ted Nugent, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy and Skynyrd albums playing loud, REAL LOUD on the Pioneer with the Jensen "Mindblower" speakers.

Great playlist.B)

Love to have one or two of those cars in DJ Snake’s video. I like Leo Moracchioli’s video or I should say version a lot more. Not much into the DeeJay Rap thing.
I noticed in the comments on Morscchioli’s video that he played every instrument for that song. Impressive.
