Found a holster

Forty Rod SASS 3935

Recommended Posts

that looks like exactly what I need.  Made by Sickinger (Bodyguard upside down shoulder rig) and sold through Holsterwelt in Germany.  Quality appears to be above normal and it appeared in an NRA magazine article.  The price is acceptable.

I don't know anything about either company involved and they are our of stock right now.  Probable four tiosix week wait

What can anyone tell me about these things before I commit to a long time wait and end up with garbage.?

Wow. The dollar is worth more than the euro?!

I looked that holster up. 99 euros. Figured it would probably be about a buck and a quarter. Did a conversion online. $96 and change.

Golly gosh.

I can't say that I know anything about this company. I just looked at some pics, and the one thing I don't like is the elastic band under the armpit. I would rather have a leather strap attached to my belt.

As it just so happens, I just saw this on youtube. While I don't think that he's as great as HE thinks he is, he DOES have a lot of experience. I haven't watched it yet, but you might see something in it for yourself. :

Funny. I wore a Miami classic for years. Never wore it horizontal. The grip was slightly tilted downward, and the muzzle was pointing up behind my shoulder.

Is he worried about shooting me with his live gun, over the internet? He wasn't going to draw his live gun and pointed at me through the magic of camera and internet? If he was worried about it, why didn't he just unload the thing?

Not familiar with the one you are looking at, but I used a Safariland upside down J frame holster for years, and still wear it on occasion.  Conceals very well, quick to access, and with practice you can draw with your weak hand as well

Similar to the Safariland, the strapping system is a bit more complex.  The holster I have has worked well - this one adds thermoplastic, which might make it more secure, though I never had a problem in that respect with mine.

Or it could be that he is trying to model behavior for everyone else so that some Keyboard commando doesn't point out that he has his finger on the trigger or some other stupid comment.

It could also be as a courtesy to the folks running the cameras.

It's referred to as the exemplar method.

Tried several shoulder holsters over the years. Never could get used to them. I understand why women don’t like to wear bras.

I can't speak from personal experience about these holsters but I know folks who use Ken Null's holsters and love them.

I would agree with this. As a gun writer I have rules that I have to follow because of the keyboard commandos reading the publication. I had to redo a photo shoot for a Uberti Opentop. I thought the revolver looked classic having the arched hammer cocked. But, after submitting the article and photos I was told to redo the photos because someone would complain that a round might be under the cocked hammer! Gotcha moments and nit picking are common with gun media viewers. Hence the reason he is using fake guns and I can't photograph a cocked gun, or write about certain topics

That one!  It just looks more reasonable to me.  I don't like plastics of any kind and so many of the others are bulky and have all manner of square corners.  Also, this one looks more comfortable.

My concern is that I don't know the companies I'll be dealing with and don't want to end up with an $80.00 trash can counterweight.

The website I linked above states that these holsters are made by Vega Holsters of Italy. I did a search on Vega Holsters. They have a website in the USA but their US offerings are more “tactical”. I also discovered that Vega Holsters are sold through Craft Holster.
https://www.craftholsters.com/vega-holster-products

Craft sells European holster online and on Amazon. I have not bought any of their products but they look fantastic. They don’t show the upside down holster on their website.

Vega shows the holster in their website but doesn’t give info on purchasing. You may have to go through the site you found it on to buy it.

I cannot find any reviews of this particular holster.

I have never preferred a shoulder holster in all my years as an LEO, but the Bianchi X15 was the one I liked best.    Well made, good leather....and I like the barrel pointing down, as opposed to any other direction.

I used to carry a Ruger Security Six in one of those. I did replace the elastic band with a leather strap that connected to my belt. That way, the harness didn't slide down my shoulder.

I had a similar holster to the one in Pat Riot's link.  Mine was for a K frame Smith snub, and worked great with my Ruger Speed Six.  I severely regret letting it go in a moment of weakness.  I currently have only a Miami Classic that fits a variety of Sig P series semi autos.

It also is NOT made for small guns, and no one else seems to make any for Colt .380 Government Models.  Very few are made for Colt  Detective Specials. Most so-called "concealable" holsters use a half a steer hide to make mostly UNconcealable, heavy, bulky and uncomfortable rigs.
