“My legislation is common sense and provides a straightforward licensing process to ensure those who are purchasing and taking ownership of assault weapons are responsible, law-abiding Americans,” Jacobs said in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.

That's a first step.

We had that baby step here in Canada as well.

It started with no restrictions, then use only on a licensed, authorized range.

Now, AR-15 and all their derivatives, some 1,500 types, are Prohibited in Canada, not by an Act of Parliament, after debate, by elected Members of Parliament , but by an Order in Council (OIC) which the Prime Minister's Office writes and the Governor General has to sign. All at the whim of the leader of our country.

NOW, the Liberal Party of Canada, under the leadership of Justin Trudeau, is trying to figure out a way to "Buy Back all these firearms, using tax dollars, then destroy them. They are asking for businesses or organizations to take on the job of collecting these WMDs from their legal owners.

Criminal organizations, gangs, thugs and drug mob enforcers are of course exempt, but perhaps may decide to help in the collection efforts.

The difference is we have a Second Amendment and Canada doesn't. I sure wish you did have a second amendment so Trudeau and his ilk couldn't just do what they want. I feel for you folks!

This is just a proposal that will go absolutely nowhere. I don't even think this could pass in New York.

The article uses the phrase "assault weapons" twice, while the term "modern sporting rifle" or "MSR" is used five times. Although the term was created as an alternate descriptor to apply to "assault weapons", it casts a broad net in the minds of gun control activists.

That's what the 4473 does

Thy can't confiscate all these ARs unless they're licensed and registered first. Otherwise they have no idea whose doors to knock on. When England banned handguns and semi-auto rifles all they had to do was pull up the database of licensed owners and mail out letters ordering the surrender of said firearms. No knock required.

One of the reasons they want the 80% guns gone, and to force all private sales to go through a FFL. Registration just leads to confiscation

"Anyone who already owns an MSR would be grandfathered* in, however, if they wanted to buy an additional MSR they would need a license."

Quick - buy now~!!

If this piece of trash passes (not unlikely :(), you're covered.  If it doesn't, well... ya have a new toy!  :)

*I wonder how long it'll take the b*st*rds to legislate that part into oblivion.  <_<

i think the socialist nazis  had the phrase right , the intent would have been obvious to those that knew history but back then germany was reeling from the first go round and they ignored that , we are doing the same here , its so obviously a repeat of history that ill not even bother saying i 'told you so' when im on my deathbed , but ill have my AR without papers thankyou ,

And therein lies the rub — how to distinguish between the ‘pre-license ’ ARs and the ‘license required’ ARs.

My cynical nature leads me to believe it would be in the form of requiring people who already own ARs to carry some sort of documentation with the rifle to prove to law enforcement that you owned the rifle before licensing was required.

Further, I also suspect that even grandfathered rifles would fall under the licensing scheme at the first transfer. So if you wanted to give it or sell it, you’d have to go through an NICS check and the recipient would have to have the license.

The serial number of the gun will line up with a production date.  There are published lists for most manufacturers. Even simpler, a photocopy of the sales receipt.  But remember, in their mind, this is just a waystation on the route to the final destination.

That is their plan, they will be registered as we die giving criminals a complete shopping list.

We are already talking as if this is a reality. It isn’t. It isn’t unless we allow it. And if they get it through? Ignore it and fight.

Here’s a reality for them. Carry a copy of the Bill of Rights and refer to it often. Remind them of it often and donate to NRA, FOC, GOA, etc.

Fight!

If they want them registered why not just open up the nfa and be able to register them as machine guns?   Sarcasm font, They are already weapons of war.

I really wish we had some politicians with some drive and start proposing laws that would make those who want to ban guns show their true intentions.  Like with background checks, make a database we can all check to see if someone is a prohibited person and get an approval of transfer, but not record of what was transferred.   I would guess the dems would vote it down, showing they don’t want background checks, but a registry from scanning 4473’s.

What’s an AR?

AR stands for Armalite Rifle, Armalite is the company that started building Stoner’s invention but couldn’t keep up with orders and contracted Colt to build them and that’s how Colt started building the M16 and M4.  Armalite build both the AR15 and 10, the original caliber, .308.

I keep thinking back to this one, but if I used it in FB, I'd get my knuckles wrapped for drawing parallels!

EDIT: It's already reality here in Canada.

What is the "common sense" in registering firearms that are used in <5% of all homicides?

It's not about crime.  It's about control.

Actually it simply stands for ARmalite. They developed two shotguns as well, the AR-9 and AR-17.

I thought the ar9 was 9mm
