I have heard of people pinching off a chunk and sitting on fire to warm up their c-rats in Vietnam. And I have also heard that when their rations were sufficiently warm and they needed to put the fire out, if they stomped on it it had the tendency to blow their foot off. I wonder if he's wrong or if the stories I've heard are wrong? I will leave that to mythbusters. I ain't going to set that on fire and then stomp on it to find out. Burning and detonating are different things. Quote
Alpo Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Read my post again. He said it would burn. But the myth said that if, while it was burning, you stomped on it, it would explode. 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted February 20 Author Posted February 20 It doesn't detonate when stomped on. I heard that it was a rumor spread to keep men from using it to heat food. 1 Quote

Sedalia Dave Posted February 24 Posted February 24 A guy walks into a bar and tells the bartender, “If I show you a wild trick, will you give me a free drink?” The bartender shrugs, “Sure, why not?” The guy reaches into his pocket and pulls out… a tiny rat . Then out of the other pocket, he pulls a teeny-tiny piano . The rat stretches, cracks his knuckles, and starts playing the blues like a rodent Ray Charles. Stunned, the bartender pours him a free drink . After finishing it, the guy says, “Now, if I show you an even better trick, do I drink free all night?” “Buddy, if you can top that, you’re drinking on me till closing,” the bartender replies. The man pulls the rat and piano out again, and this time reaches into his coat and pulls out… a small bullfrog . The frog clears his throat and starts belting out soulful blues lyrics. The rat’s playing, the frog’s singing — the bar is dead silent in awe. Suddenly, a man rushes up and says, “I’ll give you $10,000 for that frog!” The guy says, “Nope, not for sale.” “$25,000!” “Nope.” “$50,000! Cash!” “Deal.” The bartender’s jaw drops. “Are you CRAZY? That frog was a gold mine! Why’d you sell him?” The man smirks and says, “Relax. The frog can’t sing... the rat’s a ventriloquist.” 2 3 Quote

Alpo Posted February 28 Posted February 28 You know, I have seen that firearms range sign meme so many times, I finally decided to translate it. Because I noticed the first time I saw it that while firearms has eight letters, the Braille word only has seven. The second Braille word does in fact say RANGE. The first one says F I R E * M S Where I put the asterisk - that character is not in the Braille alphabet. It is close to the letter N, but it's not and it is close to the letter T but it's not. 1 Quote

I wondered why each of the gear positions had two characters. Except the one on the far right which is an R. You will notice that the first character in the gear positions is the same on all of them. Three on the right and the bottom one on the left. That means #. The second character is the number of the gear. Amazingly I've never seen a stick that said #1, #3, etc. I guess shifter knob makers figure sighted people are smart enough to know that that 1-2-3 refers to the numbers. The pattern, though. Put it in reverse, back out of the drive, push it up in the neutral, go over and pull it down into first. Then push it up into neutral, go to the right and pull it down into second. Push it up into neutral, go to the right again and pull it down into third. Now push it up into neutral, go all the way to the left and push it up into fourth. Now bring it down into neutral and go all the way to the right and push it up into fifth. Finally bring it back down into neutral, bring it halfway to the left and go up into sixth. Talk about your modified H pattern. Maybe that shifting pattern is additional theft protection, just in case the car thief knows what a clutch is. Quote

In Braille the letter "A" and the number "1" are the exact same pattern. The shift pattern is still 4-1-6-2-5-3. 2 Quote
